Dude, 50-60 is Normal for a GTX280 on idle. as is 90c when on full load. I know this cause my GTX260 runs 55-60 on idle, and even on 100% fanspeed under load Frequently gets upto 85c, and I have lekker cooling, well setup in my case.

In idle you can expect a temperature of 50-55 Degrees C. Pretty normal. Yet once we push the GPU to 100%, the temperatures take a pretty hefty toll and settle at 85 Degrees C, that's 185 degrees F

The only time to start worrying about GPU temps, is if your card starts displaying artifacts randomly in ALL games, or just displays a blank screen and reboots your pc after prolongued use.
I know those high figures seem worrying, but they aren't.
