Default First footage of Grim Fandango remake on PS4

Tim Schafer and Double Fine have finally shown off the remastered version of Grim Fandango in action, with the game also confirmed for PC.

We don’t know what was more surprising, the announcement that there is to be a remake of LucasArts adventure Grim Fandango or that the announcement itself was one of the key moments at Sony’s pre-E3 press conference this year.

At the time there wasn’t so much as a screenshot of the new game, but developer Double Fine has finally shown off some footage of the PlayStation 4 version in the video below (we’ve skipped it ahead to the good bit).

The game got its first public airing at the PAX Prime expo in the US last week, where it was revealed that the original concept artist and composer is back on board for the remake. As well of course as director, and Double Fine boss, Tim Schafer.

Details are still fairly thin on the ground but the game was confirmed for PlayStation 4, PS Vita, PC. And yet you can hear in the video how the team talks about making the game available on ‘as many formats as possible’.

And considering there are now optional touch controls that presumably means tablets are being considered. The original game was not technically a point ‘n’ click adventure, as it was the first LucasArts game to allow direct Resident Evil-style control of your character.

Those controls were awful though and changing them seems to have been one of the first tasks, alongside updating the graphics.

You’ll still be able to play the game as it originally looked if you want but there’ll also be a remastered version using the original assets that runs at 1080p, and uses per-pixel lighting effects and, probably, post-processing effects too.

The game will still run at the 4:3 TV screen ratio the original was made at though, with Schafer claiming that movie director Wes Anderson has made that acceptable to modern audiences.

There’s no release date for the remaster, and as you can see even this new video footage is just the developer pointing a camera at the TV screen. Plus it’s the original version of the game, without any of the promised new effects.

Is this going to be available on all platforms? I'm really excited to try this one out.

I hope it comes to PC sooner rather than later.

Grim Fandango is one of those games I must've bought about four times since it was released...

Looking forward to grabbing it again once this is released
