Fist of Jesus

I'm sure it won't. We're all adults and I'm sure the mods can step in long before things get out of hand. By all means, I really want to hear why christians think this is offensive.

I genuinely don't understand why offense needs to be taken here or why christianity should be off-limits for satirical games.

Sorry G, not going to bite. This will never end well, perhaps someone else is willing to explain.

You realize the irony is that 90% of the time religious threads are closed on these forums, it's because religious people are overly sensitive and freak out. If they could keep themselves composed and have a civil discussion, that wouldn't happen.

This thread should be closed since Kevin has created another.

Ironically enough, Kevin's thread links to a MyGaming article that merely promotes the game, instead of taking a stance against it. That's bound to just lead to even more anger from the resident sensitive folks.

No matter Graal - you are welcome to air any views on this matter. The conversation goes like this, Christian provides a view, non-Christian retorts that the Christian believes in a fairy tale, Christian says I have proof, non-Christian refutes proof with Dawkins et al. We then start insulting each other.

So I'll avoid all the nastiness, the end result is that we will be no better off, but more pissed off with each other.

I'm asking why christians find this offensive. We're not having a discussion on the validity of the christian beliefs. I'm not sure what you wish to accomplish by pretending the latter is the case.

You cannot have the one without the other.

You cannot have the one without the other.

You can and up till now we did. Taking offense at a videogame that uses your belief as the subject matter is not intricately related to whether god is real or not.

Stop pretending that everyone is out to cause you offense when they try to critically engage with you and actually critically engage with them. You've got very little to lose and you can step out at any time if you feel things are not going in a good direction.

Christians see God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost as part of the Holy Trinity. This game mocks Jesus and thus according to what Christians believe, it mocks God.

How does it mock Jesus? By portraying him as a cartoon hero who punches zombies? Why do you insist the game is mocking your god?

Are we only allowed to portray religious figures in a serious light? That's a bit of a problem, if it's the case, because it's certainly not been the case in popular media for decades already.

But I still don't understand. Why is it offensive? Because Jesus, therefore offense?

I guess it's like this, imagine your brother ran into a burning building to save a child, and got the child out, but died in the process. You would be upset, but you would also hold him and what he did in high esteem. You'd dress up nicely every time you head off to the site of the accident, you'd sit there sharing things quietly with him as though he was there. Now imagine if they came out with a game called fist of Pete, with him running around smashing up zombies with fire sticks, It just cheapens everything that he did. And because its a sh*tty game to boot, that makes it even worse.

Personally I don't think it's all that offensive, but it is just another cheap jab at Christians. The majority making a mockery of what's important to the minority, which is no different to mocking a disabled kid, or a gay or a black kid in a white neighborhood. You know, fist of lesb0, with a large chick throwing di1dos at people's heads. Some people in the gay community may laugh that off, but other, who have gone through a lifetime of bullying, will probably be hurt by yet another jab at their expense.

I'm not saying I agree of disagree, I'm just making a few observations.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise that you don't understand the word "mock" either:

Isn't Jesus technically saving what's left of humanity from the zombies, making him the saviour...?

I highly doubt Jesus would resort to murder to save humanity from a zombie plague. A man who healed the blind and sick would have a better plan that wouldn't involve senseless violence to remove a zombie infection.

It kinda like throwing someone into a gladiator ring with the option to choose any weapon imaginable and then they choose to fight with a tooth pick.

Religion is always going to be a hot topic; not because of ideology and/or a belief system, but because of controversy that can easily be latched onto it, when associated with less desirable or inappropriate means (albeit "supposed" humour).

It just boggled my mind when someone said they couldn't understand why a certain group of people found something offensive. When logically it was very easy to figure it out. In fact I'm sure if you asked first graders why a religious group would find something like this offensive they would be able to answer the question.

Which for me means one of the following:
1. Graal was trolling and trying to upset other people.
2. Graal has very limited understanding of the people around him.

We should respect other people and their beliefs. At least that's what decent people would do.

Where did I take offense, the position I took was that it is a cheap marketing ploy.

I'm sorry, but I still only see people being overly sensitive over a satirical caricature. We see caricatures of popular characters almost daily, yet when it's someone's god it's suddenly off-limits? At some point you have got to grow a sense of humour and realise that not everything is worth taking offense at. Crying about this game sounds an awful lot like the muslims getting angry every time someone makes a picture of Allah. Except in their case they simply send everyone death threats, unlike this forum where the worst I've had to endure is overly sensitive people calling me stupid and/or a troll.

Judging from what I've learned over the years of the Jesus of your bible, I would say that he would be greatly disappointed that his followers continuously paint him as a grumpy old guy with no sense of humour. I'm pretty sure he would have seen the humour in this.

Lighten up. This game didn't impact your quality of life, it doesn't prevent you from being a christian and it certainly didn't turn your god into a goat with a party hat. Life continues as usual. Now excuse me while I go play "My Ex-boyfriend The Space Tyrant." Maybe afterwards I'll go cry about how it mocks gays and think up reasons to be offended by it.

I respect your beliefs. I don't respect your overly sensitive sensibilities.
