So why exactly is Horizons priced at like R800 ? I thought this was an expansion or a "season pass" ? Am i missing something? Things sounds a little overpriced to me, guess i'm stuck somewhere between Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous (original version) , as i'm not paying another R800 for something that isn't even done yet?

Man, don't you sleep? I'll be trying out Horizons today. No there is no way of transferring your ship yet. But Fdev do know it's been requested a lot and they are working on it. Though everything other than Horizons is on the back-burner.

Fast travel / Shuttle Services are also in the pipeline... That's why the Orca is in-game. And the Beluga and other ships like it are slowly getting implemented.

Essentially, they want you to pay for the next "season". So the R800 is for the next 12 months... and then it will be another R800 + inflation for the next 12. Ad infinitum.

Ah ok thanks for the update. It's a shame that those things still aren't in the game a year after release.
When an anti-piracy method is affecting the game for people who legitimately bought it and causing other people not to buy the game, there is obviously something wrong with it!

Can't say i'm very happy about a model like that. It is one thing to pay R800 every year for something that is complete (and even this practice is frowned upon at $60 , just look at the rage when Bungie did this with Destiny ) , but a completely different thing to ask this before the content is even made.

I mean, seriously, people are going ballistic over EA with their $50 Star Wars Battlefront season pass (which is cheaper than Horizons mind you) , and no one is batting an eye over this?

Irony is, by the time the content is done, it will most likely be discounted at R300, much like the vanilla Elite is right now. So it just seems like something that is going to backfire for these guys at some point, and i get the impression they are cash grabbing while Star Citizen is not released....

I would rather have them charge me $10 for DLCs every month or something, but a full R800 ? No way

A lot of people complain about this. But think about it... For one, it's an MMO without a monthly fee that has a very dedicated dev and support team that do actually listen to the community. If you break it into a monthly fee then it still works you out cheaper than playing WOW or EVE or some other MMO that has a monthly fee.

And you compare this to Battlefront? The two games are nothing alike.

Finally, the roadmap for Elite is very clear. You don't have to buy expansions. If you don't, it doesn't mean that you won't get updates. You would still be able to play Elite version 1.5. Which already has a lot going for it and is still being updated. For now they are still working on the foundation of the game. In a bit we will probably see things getting fleshed out more and more depth being added to them.

You and me both buddy. Their steam rating has dropped from a high of 78%, it's now hovering on 70%. But it has dropped by 2% in the last few weeks. I'm quite sure that this will be enough to drive it into the 60s.

The bugs that I'm complaining about have been in the game for a year now. Basic functionality like the ability to transfer your ships around or catch a shuttle to your friends are still not available.

Agree to disagree. A very dedicated dev and support team wouldn't leave bugs around for more than a year. They wouldn't release an expansion before basic functionality has been added to the game.

What they do have is a draconian moderator team that love to lock threads both on the steam forums and on their own forums.

Thing is, i would actually PREFER paying a sub, not only is it easier on my pocket, but paying for an "annual sub" ahead of anything is a slippery slope into disappointment. With a monthly sub, i can gauge progress on a regular basis and show my unhappiness by stopping the sub, which will keep the devs on their toes. There is also a real concern that i might not even be playing the game after 3 months, so forcing me to pay for content that might only release in 12 months is a bit disingenuous.

I guess this model will work great for the fanboys and hardcore space sim players, but for the more casual players, this will never fly. It actually makes Star Citizen's eternal rounds of community funding (without actually releasing anything into production) look like cake.

Either way, i will stick to vanilla Elite and wait for a price drop. The real problem with something like this is, it splits the community (this is an online game after-all), you will eventually get people who is going to remain in different versions of the game because it is just too much of an initial investment to "upgrade" .

As for Star Wars Battlefront, i'm not comparing a shooter with a space sim here, i'm comparing business models. The concept is identical, be it an online shooter with new maps / new weapons / new game modes vs. a space sim with new ships / new game modes / new planets ... same concept of paying for a "season pass". You might argue it is really DICE vs. Frontier and how they work with the community, then yes, big difference there, but doesn't mean i am suddenly comfortable with paying for season passes because it's not EA.

Some of the ED:H complaints. That complaint about the bounty system reminded me how annoying that was. If you accidentally hit another ship and you get a tiny fine of say CR200, which you can pay no worries. But if the security ships see you with that bounty they will open fire no questions asked.

Yeah, a minimum amount of say 5000 before they open fire would be nice.

Just came here to see if anyone had an issue with the Horizons price. I have to agree with the top review on steam at the moment. They can keep the expansion.

    No. Just NO.

I am sick of this marketing nonsense, enough is enough.

    1. Why is this DLC marketed as a new game?

    2. Why is something that has been marketed to us as "Season Pass" now suddenly "EARLY ACCESS"?

    3. A description text like "incredible, connected, player-driven Elite Dangerous galaxy" is a complete joke and a slap to the face. Nothing is player driven, nothing is connected, your galaxy is DEAD AND DULL without any background simulation happening, so stop luring people into this with empty promises.

    4. Writing non-existent game features like "Multicrew" in the description box, 10/10, would read again

    5. The trailer is extremely misleading because the gameplay is nothing like this. At all.

    6. FINALLY: Pricing of this DLC? The worst joke of all. Content worth 10$ inflated to 60$ posing as a new game. Incredible.

Space Engineers just added planets, guess what - FOR FREE.

    I´ve had enough.

Other space sims launch with 10 times more features and don´t nickel and dime you for game features behind a paywall and sell it to you through deceptive marketing.
