Welcome to the MyGaming GIFV (aka HTML5 video) Alpha

Grand Poobah
My idea for supporting GIFV on the forum seems to work (sort-of).

I've tested in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox and one of the videos I tested with didn't seem to want to load in Firefox.

Please give it a spin and let me know what your experience is.

To use, wrap the direct URL of the videoset without a file extension in gifv tags, like such:

Code:
[PLAIN][gifv]http://i.imgur.com/c6tDqZM[/gifv][/PLAIN]

(This is the code that inserted the above GIFV of the cat into the post.)

Notice that the .gifv extension is left off. This is because of limitations in the forum software that I had to work around.

Some technical details:

The [/PLAIN][/CODE]

I can't get my Gfycat html5 gif to work am I doing it wrong?

HTML:
[gifv]http://gfycat.com/FrailHeavenlyIberianlynx[/gifv]

Yeah Gfycat looks like it's going to be tricky. You have to find the direct links to the videos. In this case it means using the "giant" subdomain:

HTML:
[gifv]http://giant.gfycat.com/FrailHeavenlyIberianlynx[/gifv]

You can do this by going to the Gfycat's page, then using your browser's built-in developer tools to look at the URL used for the video.

Unfortunately Gfycat uses all kinds of different subdomains (I've seen "giant" and "zippy" so far) and doesn't seem to offer a direct link option in its share/embed menu like Imgur does.

Also: HOLY #*&*! That's a 14MB video that autoplays! These threads are going to need to come with either warnings or restrictions.

A okay so that was the extension they where talking about. You get firefox and chrome extionsions that take you to the direct links but apperently it breaks all kinds of pages.

Was wondering about the sizes.

No, imgur uses a .gifv extension in its "direct link" URL. That needs to be left off.

Gfycat uses subdomains but makes it very difficult to find the direct link, unfortunately.

Actually it's very easy. Just right click the video and click "Copy video URL" in Chrome, or "Copy video location" in Firefox.

Gfycat. I can die happy now.

To anyone using gfycat:

Code:
the original link will be http://gfycat.com/PeskyPleasantCat you need to add zippy to it's URL like so http://zippy.gfycat.com/PeskyPleasantCat place that in [gifv] tags to get it to work

Only sometimes. Gfycat uses at least two sub-domains from what I can see. Sometimes it will be zippy.gfycat, other times it will be giant.gfycat.

This thread just makes me miss Anime! Think i need to get a new anime series and watch it!
