Also found this article... quite a nice read and it is clearly showing the differences between CPU-intensive and GPU-intensive games.

I am starting to draw the conclusion that putting an i7 920XM CPU in the laptop is not worth it, especially if it there is not enough GPU power, which can typically only be supplied with SLI / CrossFire.

Hhmm... I need to be able to game on the laptop, since I am not always at home when I game and I cannot always travel with the desktop.

I have always bought performance laptops because I don't like to struggle with mediocre setups.
(I am the most patient person you will ever meet, but I hate waiting for my PC to finish doing stuff, or even struggle)

I don't mind lugging stuff around, I have done it for years (carried laptops weighing from 3-4kg's around, not including the weight of the bag!) and am not one of those guys that has to have the tiniest laptop or something - performance is my preference.

I am looking at getting a gaming rig as a desktop at home too.

This is on hold for a bit.
I saw that I will be able to put i7's in Rig 1 in a few weeks... so will be waiting for it.

That depends... some games are CPU-intensive, others are GPU-intensive.

Someone forgot to mention that the Graphics in those laptops cannot be compared to desktop equivalents since they are different.

The GTX260M is actually a 9800GTX (Damn Nvidia's Rebrands): LINK
The ATi Mobility HD4870 card is a REAL HD4000 part, though it is downclocked to save on power.
(And more comparable to the HD4850 in single GFX config)

Check the link to read up on Mobile GFX. Oh and I'd go for the first Laptop. BTW what brands are those? and what do they cost?

EDIT: Forgot to add, Mobile versions of ATi's HD5000 series are launching soon, if they havn't already. Try to look out for those (price/availability).

    Thanks for the info.

I am eyeing the Alienware / Dell laptops at the moment. The HP's are not exciting enough and their performance lacks, the same for Acer, Sony, Mac, IBM. The only unit coming close is the Eurocom laptop, but it is ridiculously over-priced, plus lacks the looks
I will see if the HD5000's will become available soon.

Pricing is changing soon with the i7's coming into play on Rig1, but yes it is not cheap, i.e. more than a pretty penny... and that is about all I am going to say about that

    Saw an Acer Aspire 8942G-728G 1.28 TWN @ Incredible for R27K :
    i7 M720 1.6GHz , 8192 MB RAM, 2 x 640Gb HDD, Blu-Ray Writer, 802.11b/g/n Wifi,
Bluetooth, fingerpriont, Memcard reader, webcam, 18.4 " LCD FullHD 1920x1080, 3 year collect and return warranty, OH and a Mobility HD5850 w/ 1GB RAM.

Be aware that the Mobile HD5850 is based on the Desktop HD5700 series.
