Dude why not just stay with the 4mb and go for Telkoms 5GB INt 30 GB local.

Its like R800 for the line rental, cap and telephone line rental?

i use a 5Gb IS account, the telkom one is FAR cheaper, but I havent bothered changing it yet.

5Gb is plenty for ALL my local gaming, COD, BF2, TQIT, TF2, L4D2 and many many others - all with VOIP. Regular updates and patches.

I really havent run out of bandwidth.

When downgrading your ADSL line u need to think of the following:\
-How many ppl are using the line(2 or more will strain a 384 line)
-Will you be using multiple applications needing internet access(eg dwnloading youtube vid and play COD4 would result in major lag on a 384 line)

As for bandwidth look at how much you used previous and whether it was local or international bandwidth. Then check on whether u need unshaped or shaped b/w(eg int gaming requires unshaped b/w to play with a respectable ping)

A cool option i found was IS semishaped
the b/w is shaped during office hours and unshaped the rest of the time,

For local b/w i'd also look at IS Fix accounts a 30 gig local + 2 gigs international is R138 (if u dnt disconect the account you can get up to 30 gig int on it :>)

    I'd get the bandwidth from
Vanila (http://vanilla.co.za/dsl_faq.php) They have some really cool payement and b/w option. U can get IS SAIX or MTN b/w from them. The supports pretty sweet 2.

    or
    web africa (http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/)

I use the R554 per month 5GB 4mbps deal from Telkom and supplement it with a 5GB afrihost account.

I usually plow through the Telkom 5GB to get to the 30GB local.

I recently moved from 384 to 4mbps and it is incredible. If you are not doing any heavy dling then its fine. I also found it was fine for gaming. My pings seem to be more dependent on the ISP than anything else.
