I see more and more people are installing solar panels on their roof, it's an expensive setup but well worth it in the longterm going off-grid. But, you are probably screwed when there's a week of cloudy/rainy weather and no sun? I suppose the grid can be used as backup then

my power died last night at 18h00 without warning but apparently it was an "unscheduled outage". don't know how it could be perfectly at 18h00 without being scheduled though.. at least it was only out for a hour.
