Confirmation (of sorts) in the informal community Twitch broadcast on Friday regarding the new pricing for Star Citizen and Squadron 42:

Feb 14th, Star Citizen and Squadron 42 will no longer be sold together at the price of $45 [the present best price for a package containing both games in digital format].

Existing packages purchased before the split will not affected.

After the split, if you want to buy either of the two, they will cost $45 each. However if you decide to buy both, the other one will be classified as an "add-on purchase" at $15, bringing the total for both games to $60.

e.g: Buy Star Citizen for $45 and-on Squadron 42 for $15, and vice versa.

Pricing for the individual games and for the add-on option will increase again as they near launch.
No clarity yet as to if the $15 add-on purchase must be made at the time you purchase your main game, or if you'll be able to purchase it separately later on. (Personally I think they'd be dumb not to do it that way.)

Oh, and as I suspected the one week Free Fly period has been extended for a second week, and will now run to the 14th, so if you've been playing around with the game under Free Fly, you've got a little more time.

I checked this out on Friday and the game is so utterly broken I didn't feel like it was worth wasting any further time on it...

Well, it is still in alpha...
When an anti-piracy method is affecting the game for people who legitimately bought it and causing other people not to buy the game, there is obviously something wrong with it!

True and I understand that, but it's probably not the best way to promote it right now. It certainly didn't convince me to make a purchase. Quite the opposite.

Yep, I bought it during kickstarter and I won't touch it atm. But that being said I have very limited gaming time and a massive backlog.

Final friendly reminder from me for those still on the fence about pledging to Star Citizen now. The package split of Star Citizen and Squadron 42 is happening on Valentine's Day (this coming Sunday).

If you're interested in getting both games for one price, now's the time to go for it. Best bang-for-your-buck package (imho) at the moment remains the Aurora LN package at $45. (If you do become a new backer, remember to use one of the MyG users referral codes - list back in the OP - to score yourself some extra startup credits, and get them a referral point closer to some cosmetics.)

After the split, pledging/purchasing for either of the games will cost you $45. You'll then have the opportunity to get the other game as an "add-on" to your account for an additional $15. These prices are expected to increase as release dates get closer. You can read all about the Great Package Split of '16 on the RSI site here.

Here's a video (using GTA V!) from Top Hats & Champagne explaining why he recently went against his long-held anti- pre-order/early access stance, and pledged to Star Citizen.

Whatever you decide to do, remember that SC is presently in an early-alpha state. Some users are finding the experience to be a frustrating, bug filled, poorly optimised, crash prone one. Many others are having a lot of fun playing around with the features that are presently avaialable. YMMV.

Fair enough, but isn't that the case with all kickstarters?

Well... true, probably also explains why I've never backed one.

Ah ok, I've probably backed way too many (21 and counting) :P
