Yeah, that was desperately needed. It was preposterous that they just deleted all 60GB of the previous client files and then started downloading from scratch last major patch.

Star Citizen Gamescom presentation this evening. News of progress on the FPS module (Star Marine), the standalone entry game (Squadron 42) and the imminent release of the v0 version of the Social module based in the ArcCorp station where you'll be able to shop, meet, other players, chat, visit medical, ship and parts dealers.
Big demo video shown was for multi-crew ships - "vessels piloted and wandered through by several players at once... and it’s sort of brain-boggling, to be honest. Multi-crew ships build on Star Citizen’s Arena Commander module - spawning a small group of players on a space station and leaving them to make their own fun with a craft big enough to house them all. Players can take the controls, man turrets, and embark on space-walking missions of their own devising."
Edit to clarify that this vid is the pre-recorded Press version, but the exact same "mission" play through was demoed live on stage at the presentation with 8 players connected. In fact they ran the demo twice, both times with slightly different outcomes to the version in this vid.

Two other highlights from the SC Gamescom 2015 presentation...
The Planetside Social Module of the game will see its' version 0 release by "the end of this month". This initial release will allow players to exit their hangers on foot and enter the Arc Corp station on Stanton IV, walk around the environment and have limited interactions with up 16 (?) other players in the same environment instance.
Here's the Press Version video for that walk through (again, it was also shown live with on stage players at the presentation)
(I think it's looking incredible myself!)
Also confirmed last night was that CIG and Saitek/MadCatz will develop a range of Star Citizen specific HOTAS, sticks, keyboards, mice and headsets. Couple of concept designs shown, with a prototype under glass on the stage.

Sis...Why you leave out the biggest greatest thing they actually had to show:

I'm so glad I got my seat for this. Pitty we will maybe have a complete game in 2016.
But then again the community is the only bunch to blame since they just threw money into Chris's face.
Sis... Why you leave out reading my post before that one ??
Posted the press version of that demo while the live demo presentation was still running. Was going to swap it out for the live demo that you posted but decided to leave it as they are so similar. The press version doesn't have CRs continuous cries of "More Red One Jarrad!!" though.

Pretty big day for Star Citizens yesterday. Here's a quick summary of the two biggest updates:
Top of the list was the release to the live server of Star Citizen Alpha 1.2 - the first public iteration of the Social Module:
CommLink announcement: Welcome to ArcCorp - Star Citizen 1.2 ReleasedThe Social Module represents our first step into Star Citizen’s Persistent Universe. In the coming months, you will begin to see Star Citizen’s formerly-disparate modules come together into our long term vision for the game. Today, you can enter your Hangar, load up Arena Commander and take the elevator to explore ArcCorp with other players. From here, expect to see the universe expand!

Next up was the launch sale of the Vanguard ship variants.
Pledge pricing (all avaialable until Monday 7 Sept):Earlier this year, Aegis Dynamics revealed the A3G Vanguard Warden to the civilian market. Today, two additional variants previously provided to the United Empire of Earth military are now available. The Vanguard is the Empire’s premier deep space fighter, designed for maximum crew survivability on long-duration missions. The military treats the Vanguard as a robust platform capable of being modified for any number of missions. Today we are pleased to reveal the Vanguard Sentinel and the Vanguard Harbinger
Vanguard Warden (24 months SHI) @ €200 / $250
Vanguard Sentinel (LTI) @ €212 / $265
Vanguard Harbinger (LTI) @ €224 / $280

Next major updates on the horizon are the first release of Star Marine, the FPS test module, and the Arena Commander 2.0, which will introduce multi-crew ships into the AC environment. There'll be simultaneous development on the Planentside module, with the introduction of NPCs, and gradual expansion of the Area18 zone. There is also a bit of work going into building out a second Social Module area in addition to the ArcCorp one released yesterday - the Nyx landing zone is on an asteroid, and is a favourite haunt for pirate types. A WIP landing on Nyx was quietly released yesterday as well:

Agreed! Especially when you realize that with Star Marine and Arena Commander 2.0 on the way relatively soon as well, we'll have at least another 2 of these huge downloads to consider doing as well.
Personally, I'm thinking about holding off until at least the second of those is out. (But probably won't be able to resist the temptation of seeing them for myself as soon as they're out). Hopefully soon after that they'll be able to start integration of the separate modules into a single package, and then implement an incremental update and patch process. Those not too phased about following the developments as closely as I am, should probably hold off on doing the repeated huge downloads - as Wyzak says, whilst the Social Module is a pretty huge step for SC, it's only a small element of the greater game.
Besides, us with capped accounts on crappy connections need to be very selective about how we use our bandwidth. I'm doing this update only because I've had a quiet month online, my Mad Max preload is done, and I've got enough bandwidth to spare. Else it would've had to wait until I was next up after midnight to start it during Night Surfer hours.
