So the retail version doesn't have a key that can be activated on Steam, as I understand?

I've often thought about that too and the only thing I could come up with is that maybe not as many people have adopted blu-ray drives with their PC setups yet (the only reason I have one is because it got included with my work machine).

Now that we have a release date (that should be firmer with their pre-order campaign being switched into full swing) I wonder if that price ($59.99 on steam or the warehouse although it's €59.99 by default...screw that!) will adjust here locally?

Also not sure if this has been mentioned yet however buying it from their warehouse allows you to get:
a bonus free PC Digital Download from select titles
Anyway I guess I'll wait until post release to see how it runs and then also hunt for the most reasonable price.
You reckon locals playing online (via PC of course) would have horrible lag?

How many PC users do you know with Blu Ray drives? I don't think I've even used my DVD drive in the last 2 years. I think most PC gamers are just going to skip directly from DVD to digital distribution, we don't care about Blu Ray.

True that... I just have my DVD drive as a "in case"
Which was useful recently when I got The Crew.

Yeah the uptake of Blu Ray on PC is too small for publishers to justify releasing games on that format. I don't have one because why would I need it, I can watch Blu Rays on my PS3.
