Windows 10 will be available as an automatic update from Windows Update

In a media event Microsoft unveiled that their latest build of Windows 10 will make updating from older operating systems much easier than it has ever been before.

Windows 7 and 8 users will be able to update to Windows 10 directly through Windows Update, negating the need for us to burn a DVD or making a USB boot drive to then fiddle about with the Bios. It is great to see Microsoft make the upgrade process so easy now, especially given how it will be a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8 users for the first year
They're really pushing it, aren't they? I still hope they give us the option of a clean install if we choose to use their free upgrade. It will be annoying if I have to install Win7 or 8 before 'upgrading' to 10.

Strangely I'm looking forward to Windows 10. Hope it doesn't disappoint.

    Embrace the future.
Move with the times or get left behind.
    Survival of the fittest GUI.

Or you can do what I did and not use it.
One day, I'll grow up and become responsible.
    Probably not today.

Hiro, metro is here to stay. You can always use classic desktop if you so desire.

At least in 10 metro is incorporated into the desktop. Not forced as replacement. (not that it isn't easy to bypass metro anyway )

I do have my reservations about the Windows update thing though, the store update from 8 to 8.1 was a disaster !
Spent MONTHS trying to get it to load on my laptop, however my pc updated in one night. Just sucks for us IT professionals who have to update multiple machines :/

3.4gb download per pc is silly.

I already have a WSUS server set up, so it might actually make our jobs easier. I won't upgrade until SP1, or the free year is about to run out. Haven't looked into how it will work with our licensing yet though.
