MyGaming Steam Community Giveaways - Discussion and Ethics

Now I have a bee in my bonnet over group giveaways.

I honestly feel that all group giveaways should be free for all, however it should go to a "good home"; Give your titles to someone who actually wants it and who actually wants to play the title you are giving away. If you want to give to the contributors set a CV or Level limit. Apart from that stop moaning or blacklist the person/persons you don't want to enter.

Its not about banning a specific person/people for whatever reason from entering giveaways, its exactly as you said

Its difficult to judge when someone is entering a giveaway to increase their game count or because they want it, making limiting/restricting your giveaway either a hit-miss situation, or just causing more animosity.

Would you agree that restricting people you don't like before a giveaway starts is not an effective way of ensuring your giveaway goes to someone who'd appreciate it (if I don't like you, doesnt mean you wouldnt play the hell outta the game and appreciate the gift). And what would you suggest as a means of getting people to only join giveaways they are interested in following through with at least a couple hours gametime?

I personally don't enter GAs that often, so I didn't really notice that there was a pattern emerging around some members entering anything and everything. I thought it was generally understood that you entered only if you want to play the game.

I can sympathise with those who don't install and play GAs immediately. I have access to very limited bandwidth (literally 10-20Gigs a month) so I rely on friends and family for game files. It took me three months to download Divinity: Dragon Commander that I won from Eugene but I played it, and intend to play it much more now that my friends have an interest in getting it. I am also still waiting on the Arkham origins files from my brother and will play that as soon as I get them. Sometimes playing the games immediately is not possible, but I'd still like to be part of the GAs.

That being said, if you don't ever play them, or intend to play them, it's not fair on anyone else.

Absolutely, I think it's a very difficult thing to start excluding people for arbitrary reasons. We could come up with proposals to make it more fair - something like phalen mentioned in the other thread?

Edit: Apologies for the double post, it should have merged.

All giveaways are provided by users in the community. Users manage their own giveaways, choose when they start, when they end, and who is able to enter. Once their giveaway ends, a random winner is generated by steamgifts, and the giveaway creator receives the necessary information to contact the winner in order to send the gift.

We created the secondary community to try and prevent this. But honestly, I have to admit I am also kinda fed up that its just the same people over and over winning and not playing anything that they win.

I am also tempted to kick people from the community who doesnt post anywhere else than the giveaways. As stated this was created for ACTIVE MEMBERS, not just posting in the give away thread. I shall black list people when I feel like they have won to much in the last few months. Im sorry but that is how I feel, I barely enter these giveaways, but I give away far more. This feels like it has gotten out of hand, and that we have a few people abusing the system. I am seriously considering withdrawing my last few giveaways and hand them over to other people who I know wants the games and that will play it.

I think if someone has won , they should sit out for 30 to 90 days before entering again.

It could be a bit of drama to record the info and make it accessible to everyone though.

I honestly feel that all giveaways should be free for all. However the management of abuse or users that abuse giveaways are key.

Problem with that was we had random people who are not members on the forum enter, and win and have pissed of forum members.

But I think I will take a bow - you are all welcome to run the give aways. I just don't have time or energy for the drama.

Agreed, life is too short for drama. Why are non-forum members part of the giveaway group though? That's part of the problem.

No that is why we created the second community one to ensure that it is only valid forum members who participate. But after a few months the people stopped posting outside the giveaway thread.

So this is me done with it. Goodluck Eugene!

Hopefully not forever...Wasn't here when it started but any fool can see that you guys put alot of heart and soul into this little unique corner of the forum.

Noooo! There's always drama with everything. It's part of life.

So don't be done with it and don't be done with giving away games and don't be done with entering.

Drama is good. It shows people are passionate about something. Please stay?

I'll stay regardless. I will keep giving away games and I don't really care if people play them or not. Sure it would be nice to know that those people actually do enjoy them, but like me, maybe they like the idea of collecting.

Volgarr the Viking is busy downloading ;)

Edit: It's probably finished by now.

I've got a good number of steam and origin keys to give away actually, will go through the list and have a chat to the admins :)

Same here. Seems like giving the Steamgifts thing a skip wasn't all that bad an idea. Last public give away I did was hosting a funny pic comp on this very forum. It was fun and the winner(s?) earned it. I might just have a round 2 soon! :D

Hope they don't kick me as I post very seldom as I have no/limited forum access during the day (my sys admin read me blocked games sites) and most nights I end up playing games.

As for gifts, I don't mind if people don't play them immediately either just as long as they do play them even if its a year down the line, I mean I am still playing games I got back in 2010 (huge backlog)

What does bug me is certain people entering every single giveaway that gets posted. I don't mind it if they do that to my bundle leftovers, but the none bundle games is something else and you should only enter those if you really gonna play it. What I think I am gonna start doing is post bundle crap under Mygaming.co.za group and special games in Mygaming community....

Maybe we should do just that, use Mygaming community with a cool off period (2 weeks after a win) and mygaming.co.za as a free for all?
