I was designed and created to be the perfect killer, with exceptional abilities, along with a stark lack of emotion, all beyond any rational measure; the product of genetic engineering that was ahead of the curve, while the law regarding such science was behind the times. At this point in my life I was still a Hitman, but I hadn’t gone by the Codename Agent 47 for a good while, I was just 47. I’d been a part of many known and unknown agencies that required an efficient weapon, and truth be told, I was the most efficient weapon any agency could hope for, as each agency found out in the wake of the clean destruction I left at my exodus. The Deus Ex: Human Revolution? I was there for their Invisible War against the Legacy of Kain and their Soul Reaver faction, religious extremists who define Deus Ex as a heretic movement because of its advancements in human augmentation. I was there for The Fall of both. I was a Silent Assassin, yet the aftermath of my hits was anything but, I’d had Contracts before, and most times, Blood Money was involved, but this particular assignment was a personal, one of Absolution...
I was an archaeologist by profession, and a scholar with a propensity for dangerous curiosity by nature. This was until my maiden expedition turned from intriguing to disastrous and terrifying to exhilarating, and it was pretty much the fiery crucible from which a timid archaeologist was forged into a Thief, a Legend, and a creature known to the archaeological underground as the Tomb Raider. Pity the foe that would have come between me and my next hidden treasure or discovery. My latest expedition was not my attempt at making my mark on this world (The lost Kingdom of Yamatai already granted me this). Instead, I’d come to this point hoping to find the truth behind a Mayan prophecy that was known to the archaeological underground as The Last Revelation. Little did I know my expedition would reveal a darker secret than I could have imagined...
I’d been tracking a group by going by the name The Dark Project, and they were working on toppling the world, and I had to stop it. This led me to this isolated island, a very lush island might I add, extremely off the beaten path, which is seems like the best locale to plot world domination away from prying eyes. It was seven ‘o clock with the sun having set, which made tracking a squad of three guards to the base of operations very easy (my keen abilities might be an unfair advantage, but we are what we are). The base was heavily guarded and had a cliff covering the eastern side, with guards patrolling the perimeter at regular intervals, while sentries were posted on the three towers on close to the south and west entrances. This mission was not going to be of the quiet variety, by the look of things. I moved silently toward the west entrance since it had the least number of guards- two posted by the gated with the sentry at the west tower. I decided to set up some C4 along the weak points of the wall, and as soon as I saw the guard at the far end of the wall turn a corner on his parameter run, I swiftly moved toward the guard closer to me, strafing across the wall, to avoid the view of the tower sentry. As I closed in on him, I targeted a pressure point on the neck then proceeded to strangle him with some fibre wire, rendering him incapacitated. I then followed the path of the guard who’d taken a corner, then waited at the corner for him to make his return. Soon enough, he made his way back, and before he could turn the corner, I lunged at his neck, noting his look of horror; I dropped him with a leg sweep and let my grip on his neck do the rest. It was time to let the game of Deadly Shadows end. I immediately set off the explosives I’d placed prior to taking down the two guards, leaving the entire west wall destroyed, and the tower crashing down with its occupant probably falling to his demise. With that, chaos ensued...
Following trails outlined by research led to a cavern hidden beneath the cover of a waterfall, and the cave had no place existing, it wasn’t documented, it was in the middle of nowhere, and worse, it seemed desolate. This left rather despondent, as I got the feeling my research had led on a wild goose hunt. Instead of leaving my hunt, I picked a rather claustrophia inducing tunnel and made my way through the clammy space. It could have been thirty minutes, but it sure felt like days before I saw what seemed be an open space. Through more walking, I discovered what appeared to be a rocky doorway with two miniature statues at each side, each with a hand stretched out towards its opposite. With torch in hand, I inspected the figures, and I couldn't believe my eyes. These were the Guardian of Light, and the Angel of Darkness that my research had alluded to. I immediately had an idea of how to open the door; I stood right between the two figures, their outstretched hands conveniently spaced out so that I could grab a hold of both. Then I pulled as hard as I could. What happened next left me in momentary awe; the both pairs of eyes of the statues illuminated in a hypnotic green hue, followed by the door opening upwards. Inside though, I was greeted by about five guards guarding a humongous piece of circular machinery that seemed to be powering up with its neon lights (goodness), and these guards had their assault rifles aimed at me. Without a moment’s thought, I threw my torch in the air above them, and then tossed my pair of side axes at two of them. As the axes found their targets and dropped them, I ran to the nearest cover I could find in the confusion, and as I peeked over, I realized just how grave the situation I’d put myself in was, as an explosion blew off a wall ahead me right behind the guards. In the inferno, a bald man donning a suit that seemed to showing off some wear and tear from a serious fire fight dashed in aiming knives at two of the remaining guards, while catching the remaining guard with a close line tackle. Behind him, was an army hungry for blood, and I immediately decided this was friend, not foe...
I was like a panther with a bearing gifts of death, taking out mercenaries without a thought or worry for my own well-being. I’d managed to infiltrate the base after the confusion I created outside gave me an opening, but with this next explosion, the entire base’s defense would converge on me, but I didn't care as set off the explosives, bringing down this inner wall to expose what seemed to be a cavern of sorts and it appeared I may have not been the only one causing chaos as took down three more guards, spotting a young woman who appeared to have been involved in some fighting of her own, with some casualties that weren't downed by own hands. She must have found another entrance on the east side of the base, which didn't make sense since it was cliff side of the base. Moving from my confusion upon having found a momentary ally, I spotted what I’d come here to destroy, the doomsday device in all its neon glory. Its demise would not be pretty as I came packing every explosive you could imagine. As I moved towards the machine, the cavern lighting system came on, as the army I’d been hunting and evading finally made its way to me, forcing me to find refuge near my unnamed female ally. Easily about forty or fifty men bustled in from the opening I’d made earlier, and some from a stairway balcony near the top of north wall.
