Zuma's turn:
So apparently the new foreign land ownership policy doesn't apply to residential residencies, only agricultural land.

So you take away the land from someone who is actually utilising it and creating jobs, to give it to another political friend's family to squander ?
I understand that yes we would rather have it in South African hands, but please for the love of all things holy, just make sure it is kept in running order... Not like everything else that the greedy grubby paws latch onto. (yes I'm generalising , but I think I have a right to, so few cases out there of land changing hands and actually still being used for agriculture)
IIRC, foreigners only own 3% of all all land in SA anyway. Unfortunately I couldn't find a breakdown of that (ie how much is residential, commercial or argiucltural). It's not right that they should have it taken away, but it won't cause massive food insecurity like I had thought of when Gov. first announced it last week.
Honestly, the more important aspect of the bill is that farm owners can only own a maximum of 12,000 hectares. That's going to piss off a lot of big commercial farmers, and that could have a much bigger impact on food security than foreigners not being able to own farms.
