Default Ubisoft CEO: Assassin's Creed Unity's New Engine Will Help the Brand 'Shine'

Despite major technical issues at launch, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says Assassin's Creed Unity's engine will help the brand "shine" in the future.

Guillemot was asked during today's investor call to elaborate on Unity's well-known launch issues. He responded:

“It’s very important to understand there’s a new transition of consoles. We try to create engines that take full advantage of the capacity of the consoles,” Guillemot said. “In the case of Unity, we had to redo 100% of the engine. When you do that, it’s painful and it has to be re-calibrated. With this game, a few things were not perfect when it launched and it’s going to help the brand shine in the future. It's steps we have to take regularly so we can innovate. Those steps are sometimes painful, but they allow us to improve the overall quality of the brand."

He added that Unity was the most "beautiful" Assassin's Creed game yet, and that the next game in the series will use the same engine and customer feedback to improve upon the series.

Last December, "a person familiar with the game" leaked a new game, Assassin's Creed Victory, to the press. Ubisoft confirmed that the assets were indeed real.
