Using your phone as a modem in Windows:
I’m not going to run threw how to install every manufacturers phone as this will then be a very extended post and I don’t have the resources to do that, so I’m going to give you the basic rundown, which will be enough for you to get it sorted.
* Install the CD that you got with your phone.
* Follow the on screen instructions on how to connect it. Depending on the phone it will give you a option to connect via, bluetooth or cable.
* Once connected, start up the main PC Suite program and click on the internet icon. The description of this icon can vary from PC Suite to PC Suite. It could be: get connect, internet access, or anything like that.
* After clicking on that, follow the wizard on how to connect to the internet. This usually involves choosing your location and network.
* Once you’re done with that, it will either connect automatically, or you will have an option to click connect.
* This will also have created a connection in your network connections folder, so you can go there directly, double click the connection, and click connect. Note that Windows has the habit of entering your computer’s username and/or password into the username and password fields in the connection box. With Vodacom this always needs to be blank, so be sure to clear it before trying to connect.
If you do not have a CD for your phone, or you can’t get it connected via the PC Suite for some reason, you can set up a connection manually.
* Go to your network connections folder and click on the create new connection link, that should either be in the left column or in the main area. It might even be at both places.
* The connection wizard will then start and guide you threw the process.
* The network connection name can be anything you want it to be. I usually name mine Vodacom as I’ll be making a Vodacom connection in my case. The dial-up number is usually *99#. Note that this can differ from phone to phone. On come people’s computer I had to use, *99***1# or even *99**1*1#. This depends on the phone you’re using, and which profile on the phone the computer must use to connect to the internet. The best way is just to play around with these numbers and see which one works.
* All the other settings are pretty self explanatory.
* Once that is done, you can do the same thing that I said above. Double click on the connection you just made, make sure there is nothing in the username and password fields, and click connect.
