    Exclamation Bioshock auto patch problem

Hey guys could someone please help me out.My gf bought this game for me yesterday so i couldnt ask if internet was needed or not to run the game

Now the problem occurs when i try to install the game. After the installation process it runs a auto patcher but the problem is that i have local only internet and cannot run the game without the patch thingy...

Any advice or suggestions, maybe a local link to the patches? Im really starting to get pissed off, i have been trying for hours to get it to work

The outo patch thing is actualy the verification to the boishock servers it should not download anything big. Can't get past it that i know of.

Use your cellphone to connect to the internet to just verify the installsion. Just make sure nothing else want to update as soon as you connect your phone.
Or just go buy prepaid data.

If your phone has bluetooth or a usb cable (cable is faster) you can connect it to you pc, and use it as a dailup modem. The thing is your simcard must be data enabled just phone your provider to find out if it is or not.

Short rundown for vodacom since I am on vodacom but you should find on how to set up your phone as a modem on mtn and so on.

Using your phone as a modem in Windows:

I’m not going to run threw how to install every manufacturers phone as this will then be a very extended post and I don’t have the resources to do that, so I’m going to give you the basic rundown, which will be enough for you to get it sorted.

    * Install the CD that you got with your phone.
    * Follow the on screen instructions on how to connect it. Depending on the phone it will give you a option to connect via, bluetooth or cable.
    * Once connected, start up the main PC Suite program and click on the internet icon. The description of this icon can vary from PC Suite to PC Suite. It could be: get connect, internet access, or anything like that.
    * After clicking on that, follow the wizard on how to connect to the internet. This usually involves choosing your location and network.
    * Once you’re done with that, it will either connect automatically, or you will have an option to click connect.
    * This will also have created a connection in your network connections folder, so you can go there directly, double click the connection, and click connect. Note that Windows has the habit of entering your computer’s username and/or password into the username and password fields in the connection box. With Vodacom this always needs to be blank, so be sure to clear it before trying to connect.

If you do not have a CD for your phone, or you can’t get it connected via the PC Suite for some reason, you can set up a connection manually.

    * Go to your network connections folder and click on the create new connection link, that should either be in the left column or in the main area. It might even be at both places.
    * The connection wizard will then start and guide you threw the process.
    * The network connection name can be anything you want it to be. I usually name mine Vodacom as I’ll be making a Vodacom connection in my case. The dial-up number is usually *99#. Note that this can differ from phone to phone. On come people’s computer I had to use, *99***1# or even *99**1*1#. This depends on the phone you’re using, and which profile on the phone the computer must use to connect to the internet. The best way is just to play around with these numbers and see which one works.
    * All the other settings are pretty self explanatory.
    * Once that is done, you can do the same thing that I said above. Double click on the connection you just made, make sure there is nothing in the username and password fields, and click connect.

Or another option is to buy prepaid internet from somewhere, sign up using this prepaid and then after the patching is complete you can switch back to local. With Afrihost the prepaid is only R39 a gig and it will last for a year or something (not sure). But with them you got to send in a copy of your ID.

Otherwise there's Webafrica. If you buy prepaid with them you can also use it on WAGE for free gaming. I haven't tried WAGE yet though. Plus there's a possibility of the prepaid working on their new Steam content server that's coming sometime soon. It's R70 though, I think.

Or there's Axxess. The bonus is that you can go buy a prepaid card at an Engen garage which is ideal if you don't have a credit card or internet banking. I'm not sure of the pricing these days.

You could also do the following: Install the game and wait until it tries to auto patch... During then you will go to the folder where you installed the game and just rename it to say Bioshock 2... and then if you work then you can go home download the latest patch for it and I guess you just insert your CD and run the game... Thats how I used to do it before my days of DSL

And NO to you out there who are going to start complaining about PIRACY... It is not Piracy its simply a temp fix until you get your Interwebz sorted...
