Are modern games too short?

Would that depend on the quality of the game or just on the length pf the games.

assuming equal quality in every hour (which is pretty much impossible, as the longer the game, the more likely it will have padding). But lets assume the very best case scenario, each of the 6 hours is as good as each of the 20 hours. I would still pick the cheaper game with fewer hours, rather than more expensive with more hours. just too many games and too little time

So the issue is one of a lack of time. Unfortunately I don't think this is a problem that will go away for any of us any time soon.

but that tends to be padded with way too many "go there, fetch this, bring it back" and "kill XX/YY beasts" type quests. i have heard similiar "padding" complaints regarding Alien Isolation, which is the only reason i have held off getting it.

ya i also would rather have 3 to 5 hours of fun than 100hours of padding.

I'd be happy with anything longer than 6 hours, but wouldn't mind if a game was shorter but fun.

I'm playing Farcry 4 now and I've put in nearly 18 hours into it and I'm only sitting at 49% progress.

Padding I don't think Is always the worst sin in the world. It allows you the time to appreciate the world around you and take I the minute details you might otherwise miss in the pursuit of the grand goal. Obviously it shouldn't serve to overtake the purpose of the game itself but instead can help expand your enjoyment of it. As long as the amount is within reason.

Yeah, when the balance is achieved it's sublime . However usually you just get that feeling of overbearing gameplay
