They felt it was just so ordinary and nothing specifically special. Basically they think it is Neverwinter Nights 3. Expectations are a biatch.

But only time will tell. Pointless judging on demo's. Thing is even if this game is pretty standard fare it will still get crazy good reviews due to the nature of the game review industry.

I think the closest BioWare have ever come to a "pretty standard" game has been Sonic

And, I liked NWN, so they'd have to screw up epically for me to not like it. But you're right... only time will tell...

    I can't flippin' wait though

The camera angle guy who did NWN2 should be dragged outside and shot. Otherwise - awesome game.

The OC of both nwn's were poor but the expansions of nwn 1 are great and mask of betrayer for number is good, storm of zehir is only decent as an exploration game.

Yeah probably difficult to judge if you are only going by demo. A lot of the important aspects of the game only really gets shown as the game play develops. Can't really get a feel for how party relations and choices influences things with only short demo play through.

I do think the origins approach is pretty unique and special.

I liked the OC of NWN1, and as for NWN2, I wish they did much, much more with it than what we were given. It was decent, mostly enjoyable, but whereas with NWN1, I replayed it countless times, NWN2 I've played once. Mask of the Betrayer was decent, but it wasn't anything to write home about. I never even tried or bought Storm of Zehir...

I don't think the origins approach is pretty unique and special.
I'm guessing that's not meant to be there? If so, then I think so too. It adds a whole new level of interest for me

I'm also happy they took out the good/evil alignment and left it to choices and consequences. I find it difficult to play as an "evil" character since I tend to put "myself" in the game, but I like being an asshat when I want to be without worrying about positive or negative impacts to my alignment and the consequences attached to it which sort of detaches you from your character.

DAO Halloween comp. You get to win the nice package and tape and art book the european press got. No game disc though.

Posted 10/05/09 20:18 (GMT) by Chris Priestly

Halloween is coming and I love Halloween. For me, it is right up there with Christmas and International Talk Like A Pirate Day. And this year, it happens to be really close to the launch of Dragon Age: Origins.

To help celebrate, I want the Dragon Age Community to send in Halloween themed Dragon Age: Origins art/images. This can be pretty much any visual Dragon Age work (a hand drawn image of zombie Morrigan, picture of a DA:O carved pumpkin, picture of you in your Alistair/Morrigan/Dog costume, photoshop, clay sculpture, etc) that:
a - is your image. No copying or using other people's work
b - has not been submitted to BioWare before
c - must be obviously Dragon Age related (so no "but that could be a monster in DA" or picture of True Blood with a DAO logo slapped on it)
d - must be "Halloween"-ey. It can be serious and scary, it can be funny, whatever, but must incorporate Halloween (scare, trick or treat, pumpkins, etc).
e - some effort needs to be made. I can make my own really bad crayon stick figures.
    f - keep things tasteful.

All entries must be sent to [email protected] and must be received BEFORE 11:59 PM Sunday October 18 (So at the end of Sunday. Anything submitted on Monday or after is disqualified). All submissions will be displayed on the Community Flickr account and Dragon Age: Origins Facebook page.

Now why do you want to send in your art and/or images? Well, aside from it being a cool thing to do and Halloween being awesome, I have 2 EXCEPTIONALLY cool items to give away.

I have 2 copies of the Dragon Age: Origins European press edition (without the game discs, sorry) as seen in this video: Click Here to give away. You get the EXCLUSIVE book that was only given out to a very select few journalists in Europe. You get the book with all of the incredible art and text (in English), the audio introduction from Ray & Greg and the amazing cloth map that wraps the whole thing together. Again, even members of the DA:O Dev team don't have these, they are SUPER rare.

I will give these away randomly to 2 people (one to each person) who submit something. This isn't a "who can draw best" or whatever, anyone who puts in some effort may randomly be selected. This is open to everyone and I'll send the winners their prize no matter where they live.

So, get working on your submission. You can enter as many times as you want, but each submission needs to be unique to be counted.

Good luck to all who enter.

Also they have announced a DAO comic book.

Posted 10/05/09 14:02 (GMT) by Chris Priestly

BioWare, EA and IDW Publishing are very proud to announce the upcoming Dragon Age comic book.

Electronic Arts and IDW Publishing have entered into an agreement to expand our video game properties with new comics on Dragon Age and Army of Two.

Dragon Age will be written by acclaimed writer Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game, Ultimate Iron Man) with covers by super artist Humberto Ramos (Crimson, Runaways Vol. 3).

We will get the press release online for you to read asap.

Game informer has posted the first english review. A Bit short but they really liked it.

Posted 10/05/09 18:06 (GMT) by Chris Priestly

The fine folks over at Game Informer have posted their review of Dragon Age: Origins and have given it a 9/10!

    In brief:

    * Concept:A masterful return to the sub-genre that gave BioWare its beginning
    * Graphics:The visuals are impressive, though not exactly top-of-the-line. The artistic design conveys the ancient fantasy setting well
    * Sound:Lots of quality voice acting and an atmospheric soundtrack. Thankfully, none of the crappy metal from the trailers made the final cut
    * Playability:Fussy camera angles can slow you down in battle, and inventory management is a minor pain. Otherwise, the interface works incredibly well
    * Entertainment:I want to play this game again right now
    * Replay:High
