I really dig Perrin and Matt, Rand not so much.
I like the Borderland nights that fight the trollocks. I know there name but can't spell it. I like rand and matt. I quite like all the char. I love the fact that the baddies are more bad ass than lotr bad guys.

I remember reading one of these books years ago and hating it. It's a problem with fantasy novels for me - they're kinda hard to take seriously, and they all too quickly fall into tedious clichés. It's almost a pity, though, as I loved fantasy novels when I was a kid. I remember reading loads of Raymond Feist and David Eddings as a kid. Perhaps I just read too many of the same stories. :P

I've mostly abandoned the genre these days, although I do enjoy China Miéville very much. I guess his books are only barely fantasy, though.

I'm not really a big fantasy fan either, only read this and LOTR and the Witcher books. I enjoy psychological thrillers and "strange" books, e.g. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski and Waiting Period by Hubert Selby Jr. (all his books are quite strange).

However, I have never come across the depth and character development I found in Wheel of Time in any other book or series. Robert Jordan was a phenomenal writer.

It has to be a really good fantasy.
