I see all these FTTH articles and it makes me so sad. I live in Joburg but our DSL exchanges are all congested. I have to make use of LTE which doesn't work right quite often, most likely also because of congestion. And the worst is all these fibre places are all not in my area.
Any of these fibre things will make a ton of money if they targeted my area. Everyone wants decent internet and Telkom won't give it to us. Yet all the fibre places are in the same areas where there are already good internet.
The funny thing is that I live only a couple of streets away from Sentech.
But yes, we've got ADSL here, it's just overused. So we've got the same infrastructure as everyone else but fibre is not available here. Just on the other side of Christiaan de Wet there is fibre though which is a block away from me. So I'm hoping that they are expanding this way.

I see both links. I'm on a pc though. Master race and all that.![]()
I'd wager that you are still much more likely to see fibre installation in your area within your area than I am. DFA did do the digging up of pavements thing a year or two ago, but for now at looks as though FTTB is where the money is at. East London is at a wee bit of a disadvantage when it comes to numbers....among other things. I'm still holding out for a free ADSL line speed upgrade from Telkom some time within the next decade [internet years lol]. :-P
Would the congestion on your ADSL exchanges make your area a likely candidate for an upgrade to fibre? Speaking of congestion, how does a fibre optic network deal with that?
