That's what makes GTA story the most interesting for me, how they are constantly taking the p*ss at all these real life things. It's like that social media site/company called "LifeInvader" with the CEO eerily resembling Mark Zuckerberg, and what eventually happens to him in the game is probably what alot of people wish would happen in real life. Right down to a bloody stockmarket in the game that reacts to all these events happening in the game.
But as i've mentioned, GTA feels to me more about these "Short stories" that focus on giving more insight into the character and not really about some grand overarching plot like an Assassin's Creed would have. I never felt GTA stories are meant to go anywhere (even though sometimes it does) other than giving some more life and purpose in the world they created.
I mean look at all the time you spend going through Michael (the rich ex-conman) and all his issues with his pornstar daughter, slacker son and cheating wife while visiting a greedy psychologist .... i never saw that as part of any "plot" , that's just how this guy's life is and Rockstar is clearly joking with this rather "stereotypical" family scenario which is definitely amusing to follow, but i'd definitely not try to compare it with an Assassins' Creed Ezio type of story.
Also since when is RPG plotline suppose to be "special" and not comparable to an action game? Look at something like Half Life 2 / Max Payne or even Farcry and the latest Tombraider . GTA is much more RPG or Simulator than action game if you ask me. In fact i'd go as far and compare GTA with Skyrim , except GTA have more to do....
