Yeah, fair enough and I do agree.
Lol! Yeah we are far off in this country from enjoying something like that. But we don't need to turn this into a South African broadband complaint thread, because I know how we all feel :P But with patience we will be rewarded. Hey, Telkom's 8MB ADSL is expected for around April... so maybe things will improve faster than we hope.
shamrock I agree with the OP, even tho steam is so cheap, I look up in pride right now to the game cases in the cabinet beside my PCI love having the original, but Music CDs are totally different, I hate putting in all the info when I rip it, so I haven't brought a CD in a wile
that being true, it just means we will loose out on games, alot of new releases have shown us developers/publishers don't give a fuck for South African conditions, so we will just be left behind till out infrastructure get better and cheaper
I'm not a fan of games becoming like TV, soon games are gonna be funded the same way, advertising.

Dude some of them already are. I know that a lot of guys are protesting this quite a bit, and it has slowed down lately - I think. But I remember one of the earlier NFS games, possibly Underground - the racetracks were laden with advertisements.
I know that some advertising is fine and it fits in nicely - but in the game I am talking about it stuck out and it just felt like you were playing a free game sponsored wholly by ads!
I doubt a single company/service would have control of all the world's game sales/operationAnd I equally doubt that a single method of delivery would be available, too.
You're always going to have the folk who want a physical copy of something they buy. Chances are that the actual physical media will change rather than be done away with completely.

I doubt they'd get away with it.
Let's assume that OnLive's service does become the standard...do you really think OnLive will be the only service of its kind? Other companies are going to hop onto the bandwagon and do whatever they can to compete.
If OnLive were to suddenly introduce "ad breaks," thus pissing off the majority of their customer-base, a competing service would most likely take note of that and advertise their lack of ad breaks.

Haha, I think The Decline of Video Gaming made fun of that idea years ago, since they already whore out games at E3 every year. At every demo there's some ad tailored to target the gaming community. Their parody was "Zombeez" -- anti bacteria zombie spray.
It would be incredibly annoying to have an add play in the middle of a game. Considering how terrible and long American ads are anyway (seriously, in comparison to our ads they are horrid) it'd be like replacing Gerard Buttler with Jessica Simpson in 300.
