It's possible that I might be overly pessimistic, and I could be wrong. However MS is an American company, and like all US based listed companies nothing matters except for how much money they can make. They'll have the money printing feature somewhere in that OS I'm sure of it. Somehow they will make bucket loads of cash from the OS, they always do, it's just not quite clear how.
Well they've got the Windows Store where you can buy apps that are sold via Microsoft. It's currently there in Windows 8 but it's a mess. In Windows 10 it works much better. So that's one of the main reasons why Microsoft wants everyone to have Windows 10. This doesn't meant that there aren't normal desktop applications though. You'll still get those as normal. But even they can be sold through the Windows Store.
You get Universal Windows apps now that works on pcs, tablets and phones which is pretty amazing.
So the store is the main way that Microsoft wants to make money.
Are you currently using Win10 Soli? Way back I loaded the pre release Win7 builds on my PC, but went back to XP as I found the pre release build too unstable (or rather a lot of programs not working).
So I won't have to buy my taskbar for the low low price of $5?
I just want some clarity regarding the whole Win10 situation. Will it be free forever, or will some licensing thing come along sometime or whatever?
Also they state this:
"...giving Xbox One owners the ability to play their Xbox One games from any Windows 10 PC in their home."
Does that mean, if you have an Xbox One, that you can play your Xbone games on the PC? Or will Win10 enable you to play Xbone games? I think they mean the former of those two in which case it is kind of weird. Can't imagine myself wanting to play a game on my PC when I can play it on the console sitting comfortably on the couch.
Nope I'm not currently running it.I'm also waiting for the full release.
Haha you won't need to buy your taskbar.
I think the licensing will work the same as Apple where you have to pay for big updates. I may be completely wrong about that though and I'm too lazy to google at the moment.
As for the XBox One thing. I've got a feeling you'll be able to stream the games to your PC and then play on there. Though, I'm going on my bad memory here.

Yeah, that's the idea MS was talking about. Seems like (and I'll check if I can share the slide due to my NDA) they will be using a "common kernel" across their Operating systems (which includes the XBONE, Windows phone and other variants of Windows) which will enable you to do application sharing across platforms i.e. run a desktop app on your phone without the need to install it or play an xbone game on your desktop/tablet. It's their whole "One Product, One Platform, One Store" spin on things. The killer will be "Universal Apps", they are toying with things like Skype and MS Office being universal apps in that you'll get a XBONE version, a phone version and a Desktop/Laptop/Tablet version , but the UI will be universal, and in the case of Office it will be a buy once, use on any of your devices solution.
