PsychoFish: any ideas or suggestions?

Or Raspbian with Kodi and Squid + Squidguard as a proxy + content blocker to protect the eyes of the little one from the port habits of the big one :-{)}

Raspberry PI + Raspbian configured as the DHCP server, default gateway, proxy server (Squid) and SquidGuard is perfect and much better than surfsafe or netnanny. Just give YOUR devices a static IP and allow them to bypass the proxy, everything else has any form of adult content, even if it's mildly titilating, blocked and configured to send you an email if it's attempted to be accessed.

That is really impressive!! And the Pi can handle the proxy requests and stream content without to many issues?

You will have to adjust some squid parameters to limit memory and CPU utilization, but it handles it quite fine at 720p , you find SOME (depends on the codec) sluggishness on 1080p

so your squid config will have a couple of lines that will need to look like :

cache_mem 32 MB
maximum_object_size 251072 KB
cache_replacement_policy heap LFUDA
memory_replacement_policy lru

Adjust these to change memory utilization

redirect_program /usr/local/bin/squidGuard

Man, it seems the Pi has more horsepower than I thought... I ended up going the Arduino route for my tinkering, but now I'm considering one of these. I love debian, so maybe this'd be a good little device to set up some home security with in line with my arduino...

I only heard about the Arduino yesterday actually and their "shields". It seems very modular and a very good option for home automation, but I think it lacks the umph (power) to run as fully fledged HTPC. I think it just lacks the processing power in order to do so, considering the Rpi single core peaks at 100% when trying to do anything like this.

But yes, I think the Arduino is brilliant, and great that it's modular, but for specific purposes.

Ya, HTPC wasn't even on my mind... I am teaching myself basic circuitry (you know, in case of zombie apocalypse, I want to be able to build myself a radio) and figured these look like a lot of fun. I ordered a bunch of dealextreme.com, and have gotten everything except my bulk pack of resistors, so there's still not much I can do :|

Dunno if you know about Maplin, might wanna try them?

If I went Arduino, it would be for the purpose of home automation, something like this: http://urbantek.com/
