I for one was attracted to the forum by an Activity Competition, as were a few others that joined at the same time as I, Tom and blaaislaai off the top of my head. We're still here 1.5 years later, so if that is the aim of the competition then it definitely worked that time. Granted, a PS4 was up for grabs at the time, but if newbies stuck around after every competition they'd see quite a large number of great competitions with varied prizes are held throughout the year. It is definitely hard to be a newbie on this forum, I'll admit. Longtime members can be a bit hostile but I think it has a lot to do with how people present themselves (and very much to do with people disappearing right after a competition is over).
My reading is different. It was your escalating reaction to their posts.

I have edited the OP to provide context. Your fight with long-standing members was a derailment of the original thread. Basic forum etiquette is to avoid unnecessary derailments, especially with negativity (tangential joke sub-threads are not as frowned-upon, for example).
Other forums would just delete your negativity to avoid it having a chilling effect on the fun discussion others are having. Here I try to avoid deletion.
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you.
Why can't we all just get along?
Oh yeah, I remember now.
