I met Waco, I didn't see anyone else though. Was there a bigger meeting?

I looked around but I didn't see anyone, but my data was also out so it made it a little akward to see what was happening. O well, better luck next time.

I did get myself a pretty cool hoody though which was nice.

I have to say that there were really good cosplayers doing their thing on Saturday. My favourite was this Harley Quinn (Paul Dini version) that I took a photo with. There was also a bad-ass Iron Man suit and a girl with a really good Rogue costume.

Here's that Harley photo.

I got there at about 1, but wasnt there for to long, didnt think i would be able to make it...

As a whole tho i was pretty disappointed

The Cosplay aspect of the day was AMAZING I really never expected people to go all out like they did... But as for the "fest" it was pretty weak... The Robot wars was one of the biggest disappointments... I was expecting an area waaaaaay bigger than the 2mX4m "platform" they had but down on the grass... And the stores as a whole were a real let down... There was not 1 store selling computer components... I had a mate looking to buy a cool mouse, and there were no stalls selling stuff like that?

One of my other mates dragged me off to a store with a new "paintball" concept, that was pretty cool, but at the end of the day an upgraded version of laser tag... This was probably the most interesting store tho...

The bands on the main stage were cool, and the cosplay comp was good fun, but it was just not really what i expected i suppose... The geek box raffel as well from what i was explained the winner basically got everything the woman didnt sell on the day... She even said to me the reason why you had to be present to claim the prize was because she didnt want to pack up all the stuff and take it home with her.

Sorry if im being a bit cynical...

I agree with you in some aspects Tom
A few more stalls with Hardware would be nice as opposed to 5 stores selling incense and palm readings. I would also like to see them organising tournaments for Magic and Pokemon, something else to keep you there for the day. I remember last year there were a few stalls selling geek themed food (Anime themed steamed buns was one I remember), this year it just seemed to be Hipster food stalls selling a small plate of food for R50.

Overall it just seemed to be more of flea-market with a few comic books stands than a geek fest. (Thats if you take away the cosplay aspect)

Ja, the entertainment value wasn't that high. For a collector, it was awesome. I bought a whole bunch of things at a steal. They will be worth a whole lot more in the future (we'll see about that, but my Spider sense is tingling).

The food was okay, especially the burritos. But Ja, there wasn't a whole lot to do for people not into collecting and a few of the stalls made no sense whatsoever.

Ike_009 If there were more "visible" gaming things happening it would have been loads better, I heard about an MK X tournament, but it was in the club house of the golf course (i think) and would have been cool to watch on a big screen or something?

They also really could have organised like a Hearthstone Fireside Gathering, That would have been a fun and interactive thing to do? A Magic or Pokemon tournament also would have been great! They had that tent with the board games, I wasnt sure if people were just trying out the games, or doing some serious business there?

But I agree 100% it was more a flea-market with a few Comic book Stalls... There were 2 stands selling Kilts... at least 80% of the stands were non "Geek" related... I was constantly looking for some epic gadgets, and even the drone store was lackluster...
TheAvenged87 Im glad you came across a few good deals, but in all honesty, the only collecting factor was the comic stands? And maybe figurines? And even the figurines were few and far between, and seriously expensive... I was looking at those Pop! Funko figurines and they were more expensive than at the Musica in Sandton city...

Maybe i just hyped it up to much for myself...

Ja, I'm mostly referring to comics. I like some bin diving, and there was plenty of that going on. I got the Wicked + the Divine #1 (first printing) and Descender #1 (first printing) for a combined total of R86. Both have just been optioned as TV shows and/or movies. I might make a buck or two there.

Critters and Comics had a great deal on, selling good trades for R90 a pop. I got both volumes of the Ghost in the Shell. There were some good Garth Ennis Judge Dredd books also in the bin.

I don't really do figures (only when they really interest me), but a mate of mine called me before I went to Geekfest to keep an eye open for a Don Vito Corleone McFarlane toy, which is pretty difficult to get a hold of. First figure place I walked into, I found one.

So, from a collector's point of view, it was a great event. But when I was done with the stalls, I left because nothing else really interested me. I did go to the Clubhouse to watch some of the MKX tournament on my way out...those guys know their stuff.
