Project Natal - All hype, no inovation?

I agree whoever wrote the article doesnt know a thing about hardware and is totally clueless on how Natal really works. Article seems like it was written by a sony fanboi and not someone who is objective and who did proper research regarding the natal hardware.

Why is it that whenever anyone criticises the Xbox 360 or PS3, they're immediately and automatically dismissed as a "fanboy" of the other console? :|

I think some of you have missed the point of this guy's article - that Project Natal isn't as OMGUNPRECEDENTED as some people seem to think. Hardware specs and differences aside, Natal is a motion control technology that uses a camera to provide positional data. That's not something new. It may be a step up from the EyeToy, of course, but it's still just a step, not an entrance.

The really important - and interesting - bit will be seeing the software support.

Also, it's an opinion article. It doesn't have to be objective.

Because crap like this usually is written by fanboys and clearly the writer has done little or no research into the subject matter, so he falls back on the age old console bashing method.

NATAL does not actually a camera in the strictest sense:

Project Natal” sensor.The “Project Natal” sensor tracks full-body movement and individual voices , creating controller-free fun and social entertainment available only on Xbox 360.

RGB camera.“Project Natal” has a video camera that delivers the three basic color components. As part of the “Project Natal” sensor, the RGB camera helps enable facial recognition and more.

Depth sensor. An infrared projector combined with a monochrome CMOS sensor allows “Project Natal” to see the room in 3-D (as opposed to inferring the room from a 2-D image) under any lighting conditions.

Multiarray microphone. “Project Natal” has a microphone that will be able to locate voices by sound and extract ambient noise. The multiarray microphone will enable headset-free Xbox LIVE party chat and more.

So its a combination of a Sensor/Camera/Depth sensor and microphone, not just a simple camera like the eyetoy.

Well no one else has done this so its pretty new. Depth sensing/motion sensing and voice recognition everything in one package.

A good writer researches and studies the topic thoroughly before forming a opinion, and usually he tries to be unbiased as possible. If a article is not objective and only service to slander something then its not writing anymore but crap.

Again, it's not something new. It's certainly taking the technology further than before, but hardware motion control is not something revolutionary in and of itself. I don't see anything in this article that moves outside this particular argument.

And neither I nor the writer of this article are saying it is. But it is related, comparable technology regardless.

No one is saying its not motion control or that its something new but depth perception voice recognition IS something new. They basically re-invented the wheel and made it better.

No one accuses it of slander, I am saying its a badly written piece by someone who did zero research on the subject before writing it.
