Thread: Steam spy

Default Steam spy

Have any of you spent some time on steam spy? It's a tool for speculative steam statistics. It's quite interesting,
You can search any game and see how many people own it, how many are currently playing it etc.
Here are stats on the steam summer sale So according to this, Counter strike was the top seller, with an estimated 826,185 units sold , with a revenue of $6,188,126
Second was Ark - Survival evolved and third was Castle crashes interestingly enough.
Ark made the most by far - $10,453,153 which is awesome for a "little" indie studio.

Witcher 3 sold over $5m

Total games sold was 33,412,653 with a revenue of at least $193,743,514. This doesn't include titles that sold less than 5000 copies.

I find this stuff fascinating, and will be playing around a lot more with this site, but let me know if you guys find anything interesting.

I'm with you ave - bit of a weird fascination with stats and pretty pie charts (I'm also quite partial to edible pies too.)

According to this http://steamspy.com/country/ZA we are but a 0.29% drop in the Steam ocean.

So...many....stats....I love it!!

I haven't heard of this website before, so I will most certainly be playing with this some more.

Interestingly, I didn't find my current gaming crush, Kerbal Space Program, which makes me question whether or not all games are in fact tracked using this service

Yeah I love this stuff, especially since we haven't ever been able to see into valve's closed vault before. I was just surprised by how well Ark and Counter strike did.
So if we're 0.29%, then statistically we brought in $561,856, buying 96896 games during the sale. Pocket change, but that's still almost R7m

oh I wonder if ^^^ thought I was promoting my own site with my steamspy geekout? No, no. I'm really not Sergey Galyonkin the Ukranian I just read this article and decided to share.

If you are referring to me, don't worry I didn't think that.

I've just been searching for some games, and there are a few missing games from the database I must say. That or I'm doing the search thing wrong.

No, sorry, I was referring to Beotek's comment.

I tried to search for Kerbal but couldn't find it either. That's strange because it's not a small unknown greenlight game. (I've actually never played it but you say it's good hey? I must watch a youtube gameplay clip)

Currently looking at the concurrent gamers stats, when KSP came out of beta it spiked to over 19000 concurrent players. I personally can't get enough of the game.

Speaking of which, if someone takes time and pairs the data from Steamspy with SteamCharts, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to come up with some incredible stats, maybe showing how many of the games actually bought during the Steam sale is being played, and how much does the average Steam sale boost player activity. I would love to see stats like that.

Also, on KSP, check out the Kerbal Space Program subreddit. It's probably the friendliest subreddit I've ever seen, and they are super inclusive of new players, in fact, they invite newbies to post questions and screenshots. For videos, just Google Scott Manley

lol yeah, just taking the Mickey dude. I know full well what Steam Spy is, the post just came across as one of those spam/phishing posts we sometimes get on the forums. Guess my humour isn't the same as everyone else's.
