Smile Reviews - What's Your Opinion?

    Good day all,

So, I did some thinking this morning regarding this topic and came to the realisation that reviews don't always stop me from watching a movie, series or playing a game. However, now with video reviews available on sites like YouTube, you more or less get others' opinions as to whether or not you should watch, play or even pay for the material or not.

    Movie reviewers like:

    JeremyJahns
    Chris Stuckmann and
    AngryJoe (semi)

give you an (their) impression on how they experienced the movie, but do their opinion matter to you (not just them, anyone else reviewing movies, be it in text or video format?

    Game reviewers like:

    AngryJoe
    IGN
    Gamespot
    and a critic like TotalBiscuit

Do these opinions entice you to want to watch a movie or play a game based on how strongly (good or bad) they feel about it.
Yes, we're all entitled to our own opinions, some don't like reviews, others do. Some folk, like some of them; nice knowing I don't have to waste money on what is perceived to be crappy movie is a comforting thought, but I don't always agree with others opinions.

Take rotten tomatoes, for example: every review I've read on that site I was in total disagreement about. Certain elements I may agree to, but for the most part, I am "meh" about those reviews (e.g they'll give a movie a 4 where I considered it a 8 or 9).

A movie like Drive and Chernobyl Dairies scored low on some sites, but enjoyed watching them. Knew nothing about Drive and was pleasantly surprised.

So, what's your take, do you prefer to have no knowledge or background of a movie or series other than its trailer, or maybe not even that?

(P.S. This thread is not limited to games, movies and series - opinions on anything else can also factor here)

I don't generally follow reviews, the only opinions id listen to are my friends because we have similar tastes. I generally don't even watch trailers unless they are on TV. There are many "stupid" movies I've watched that i have thoroughly enjoyed.

I really enjoy watching reviews/podcasts/etc. What I don't like are the typical get views type of YouTubers like PewdiePie, AngryJoe, Francis (though I enjoy boogie268), ZeroPunctuation, etc... I despise them and really, really tried to watch their content but find I'm closing their videos within 2 minutes of watching.

    I give reviews about a 9 out of 10.
