    Default What is the most ridiculous thing you have done for gaming?

    Im sure we have all pushed the limits of normality at some point in our lives in order to get our game on, for instance;

    During school holidays one year, I was 12 years old and had no money but was obsessed with the arcades. I found a R5 coin in the house and knew that tokens at the time were R2ea but the nearest arcade was the other side of town. I figured I had a whole day of nothing ahead of me so I may as well walk. I freakin walked across town bought 2 tokens and proceeded to lose them both on the first level of Aliens vs Predator. 2 hours walk for 15 minutes of game time, then 2 hours walk back home bummed as heck! hahaha!

    So anyone else have some ridiculousness to share?

    I remember way back when I was still at school, I was playing Flight Simulator 95 quite a lot. One day I took a protractor, pencil and ruler to one of our atlases at home to plot a flight path from San Francisco to Los Angeles. I was way too little to do it properly, but I got the bearings and headings. So the next day (it was a Saturday) I woke up very early to do the flight. In my mind, I played as if it was an early flight. I was training my landing skills with the jet for about a week, so on the day I started the journey, plotted my course, and flew the route. I got a bit lost but managed to find the correct airport. I concentrated so hard and at the end landed the plane safely on the ground. It is probably one of my proudest moments while playing a game, and the most work I've ever put into playing a game.

    I remember Flight Sim 95. It was pretty hard. Didn't it also have a WW2 fighter mode as well, or was that another flight sim?

    At that time Microsoft was splitting the titles between Combat Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator. So it's possible that you are thinking of that. Both had the same engine and everything, but the planes were different.

    I might have played both then, because I definitely played one of the MS Flight Sim games, but I also remember a combat version.

    I remember riding my bike to the store in the rain to buy an Atari Lynx. It was a 10-15 minute drive by car, mostly 80km/h. My dad was going to give me a ride when he got home from work, but I was too excited. I got home and got to play for a little bit, but the only batteries I had died in no time. My dad got home about an hour after I did...

    I wasn't able to use it for 2 days until I was able to go get an AC adapter from a different store...

    I got into the GTA Vice City fever, playing it secretly instead of studying for my matric math exams. Barely scraped by as a result, luckily it was HG, so varsities just needed like a D or something (yes we had it harder back then kiddies, less than 50% = fail)
