Question Which gender do you pick in games and why?

I almost always pick male characters and if I can change the way they look I make them look like myself. It just feels like the natural thing to do.

Twice I've played female characters though. Well actually it started with proper pen and paper DnD where I played a character called Claire once. She was my longest running DnD character and I grew quite fond of her. So the two times where I picked a female character in games I played as her.

First it was in the original Guild Wars. Guys just gave me stuff. I swear it spoiled the game for me. I roleplayed as Claire and she was immensely popular. I didn't have to play to get gear since guys would just give me stuff the whole time. If that's how women really have it in MMOs then they've got it easy. But if they also get so much attention then it must be incredibly annoying.

Now the second time I'm playing Claire in Dragon Age Inquisition. The choice came because in the first Dragon Age I played a male Elven mage. Then the second game I played a male Human fighter. So now I'm playing as a female Elven rogue. One thing I forgot about is that Dragon Age has sex scenes but luckily one can go the lesbo route!

How about you guys and gals? Which gender do you pick in games and why?

I play almost exclusively as a female character. More because I don't like the way most male characters move and look. The few games where I am not given a choice, I actually struggle to play the game.

I tend to not use the fact that I am a female gamer to score stuff, altho I have done it once or twice to get better prices in Warframe. Their trading can be over priced so I haggle and claim to try and get a piece of gear or blue print for my b/f as a surprise and weirdly the people fall for it and I get the item I want for a reasonable price.

But in MMO's I worked my arse off for my gear I don't want freebies. I will gladly buy or trade my stuff for what I need.

I favour female chacters more probably because of the voice most of the time.

I gotta say for me its 99.9% female. I mean in 3rd person games (usually the ones where you get the choice and it actually means something, apart from just "his / hers" in option menu) I'm gonna be staring at their backside all the time...so why not make it a girls ass?

Otherwise I take female for the voice...and because hey, why not, they can kick ass too, you know!

As a dude, I also play as female. Just be to different, as it's way too boring always playing male in almost every game where you cannot choose whether to be male or female. Mostly common in FPS games

It depends greatly on the title and character. For some odd reason if I can pick a human thief/rogue they are female (I blame Imoen from Baldur's gate for this)

I have played Mass Effect with both male and female Shepard. So I guess its about 80/20 for male/female characters.

I've found in many instances, the female voice actors tend to, IMO, do a better voice over.

Jennifer Hale (as Shepard); the way she presents the character really makes you feel like you're a commander. I tried it with the male voice actor and I did not, honestly, get the same vibe.

The only time I played a game to its end using a male voice actor (by choice) was in Saints Row 2. IIRC.

Female. Goes better with the elf aspect imo for games where that is a thing
