So after spending 39 hours with Mass Effect 2 I wanted to write up a review regarding this awesome game. But then I realized that one of my reviews wont do the game any justice in explaining just what a milestone Mass Effect 2 is when it comes to story telling and gameplay narrative, which is complemented by an excellent game design and gameplay mechanic. Each of the recruitment and subsequent loyalty missions for each team member that joins your team has been a lot of fun, and in the keeping of the emotional tradition of the Mass Effect games, it really is a great bonding experience. Which means you really get attached to some of the characters in the game, some you might love some you might hate but every single one of them is unique and easy to associate with.
Bioware needs to be commended for creating such an emotionally charged game. Even just to see my own custom imported Shepard back in action bought a manly tear to my eye, not to mention seeing the Normandy rebuilt and christened. And running into old familiar faces, I felt like I was seeing some of my old friends again. Don't get me wrong I’m not some sort of social gaming freak who lives in some dungeon. But really, Bioware has created a game that allows you to fully emotionally become the person that you are controlling. And their relationships become your relationships, their joys becomes yours and their sadness yours too. As expected from Bioware, the depth of Mass Effect 2 is just as phenomenal as the first game. Each sub-mission could potentially be a sequel for another game, much less the main quest line not to mention the writing and digital acting is phenomenal throughout.
Sometimes while I played I asked myself if I was playing a game or a movie? This is what I kept asking myself while blasting my way through loads of baddies and following the super tight storyline. Playing a game like Mass Effect 2 makes me a bit sad because I realized that it wont last forever and that I will be finishing it soon. I can also see myself playing multiple play-troughs in the very near future. And I can pretty much say without a doubt that Mass Effect 2 will be a serious contender for The Game of the Year, guaranteed. One of the most, if not THE most, emotionally engaging video games I have ever played as a gamer. If what I have said doesn't indicate to you just how good this game really is, then I don't know what else to say but go out and buy the game and see what the fuss is about...
