I don't think the Younger generation is "Better" there just more aclimatised to the newer generation of shooters. Put them in an old school map with an old school player on an old school shooter (like doom), and they will get creamed.
I was lucky enough to grow up in the middle ground. I can hold my own pretty well in both styles of games, but I am better at the newer the ones like CoD.
