Fix: Remove pin by clicking I forgot my pin and go through the steps till you need to enter a new one. Instead of a new one just click cancel. Then reboot. You will have no pin logon but your networking will be back up and running

Workaround: Use command lines to map network drives. ala "Net use x: \\system\share u:user password" Only problem with workaround is that you will need to do that at every reboot, but can be sorted with a simple bat file that you run at start-up with all the drives that you need.
Alternatively, and this worked for me with SAMBA shares. Go to Control Panel -> User accounts -> Manage your credentials -> Windows Credentials

Then see if you have an entry/entries under "Windows Credentials"...delete those, in fact delete all of those if you really want.

Back to control panel and go to "Programs and features" -> Turn windows features on or off -> Ensure that SMB/CIFS Sharing support is enabled

Attempt to access the share again //<machine-name>/<share-name>/ enter credentials (if any)...ensure that the username is <domain or workgroup>\<username>

Go to network and sharing centre > Advanced Sharing options

Make sure in Private these are ticked below
    1. Turn on network discovery
    2. Turn on automatic setup of network-connected devices
    3. Turn on file and printer sharing
    In Guest or Public
    1. Turn on network discovery
    2. Turn on file and printer sharing
    In all networks
    1. turn off password-protected sharing
    2. Turn on sharing
If that doesn't work not sure what else it could be

do the inplace upgrade to convert your key, then once it's activated, you are clear to do a clean install if needed
By inplace upgrade - do you mean running the setup from the USB in your current Windows environment, or booting from the USB?

Because it looks like I'll have to go the clean install route - my last try FUBARed my system, so I had to do a complete image restore.

the reason for upgrading your existing install is so that your key essentially get's marked as a win 10 key

    Play games, not platforms

Yeah - which is fine, in principle, if I could actually go through the upgrade xD

So, if I can get my key converted from 7 to 10, and then do a clean install, I'll be happy. I think MS would please a lot of people if they just released an online tool we could do this with so we didn't have to dive through burning hoops to get a clean install going.

Anyways - tired of fighting with my system for the time being, so I'll be on Win 7 until next weekend at least.

Just install and skip the key part.

Like I said - I can't. I've tried three different ways of installing, and run into three seperate errors. Kinda over it at the moment - I'll try next weekend again.
