Default Highest Reviewed Movies Of All Time

While stumbling my way through Reddit, I cam upon this post:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comm...m_imdb_rotten/

The user took the aggregate scores of the best movies on sites like IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Metaritic and Letterboxd and came up with a giant list of the highest reviewed movies of all time. The list shows the highest 1001 reviewed movies of all time, and ranks them according to score. It's a fantastic list that I bookmarked for future use.

Here is only the top 10 movies from this list:

    1. The Godfather 1972
    2. Seven Samurai 1954
    3. The Godfather: Part II 1974
    4. Pulp Fiction 1994
    5. 12 Angry Men 1957
    6. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly 1966
    7. The Shawshank Redemption 1994
    8. Sunset Blvd. 1950
    9. Schindler's List 1993
    10. Spirited Away 2001

So I looked through the list of top 250 movies within the post, and I've managed to watch only 94 of those movies. How many have you watched? What do you think of this list?

.....I'll make you sleep with da fishes....you heathen!!!

But yeah, some of the older movies are quite slow burn movies. You have to actually prepare yourself to watch them. Schindler's List is one of those.

I'd like to filter that list down to the highest movies made after 2000 and see where they placed

I think it's really nice to see such a big list with probably around 80-90% of those titles being from 19xx

I think its more to do with the current generations trolling way of giving a movie a 1 or a 0 if they DIDNT like it. And they haven't watched those

but did he take the number of reviews into consideration? this is something F! This Movie made me aware of recently.

is 2471 people review The Godfather and score it between 85% and 95% it ends up with an average 90ish% score

meanwhile 2 plebs tripping balls in their mother's basement each give 2016 a 100% scored review making it the highest rated movie on the interwebz!

these are all hypothetical situations of course

Extract from his post (IF you read it...)

I started off by gathering ratings from IMDB (User/Critic Average), Rotten Tomatoes (Tomatometer, Critic Average, Audience Score, User Average), Metacritic (Critic Average, User Average) and Letterboxd (User Average). I was then able to determine a rating (out of 10) for each individual rating and therefore come up with an average rating for each site. Each site’s average rating was then weighted fairly so that no site’s ratings were favored above the rest.
The next step was to make sure that each film was treated fairly. Other top movie list’s like IMDb’s Top 250 removes films that have under a certain viewing number (25,000 I think), but rather than ruling out films that may have been overlooked by the general audience (especially older films), I opted to alter these films score by carefully deducting points depending on how many people have seen it, and therefore voted on it. I also thought it was needed to make sure that recent films (released within the past 36 months) were also not favored, as it usually takes 3 years for the average rating to settle down. So I also added a deduction to these films that fell under this rule.

Only 103 watched from the top 250. Will have to see what else I'd like to watch on that list, but I'm definitely thinking I need to watch all the Sergio Leone and Charlie Chaplin ones that I've missed.
