I had to go into some backend program to disable the automatic downloading of updates.

I'm fine with automatic updates. Had automatic updates on in Windows 8 already.

I think they are simply trying to force the novice users to start using the updates. Even now, I'm forcing Windows Update on our people's computers because if I made it optional, the things will never get updated. So while that is fine, they should give advanced users more control over the updates since we tend to install them anyway... just on our own schedule, not theirs. My PC remains on with apps and everything open and only gets restarted on Fridays and Sundays (which is also when I'm doing my updates).

For now though, I'll remain unaffected since I can't get past the black screen of death during the Windows 10 installation.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.
