The main problem is not the difference in price, but in pay. UK salaries are a good 30-50% higher, so you can buy a lot more toys.

That aside I'm not convinced the price comparison is right either. I can get a Nikon d3300 for just under 5k incl shipping on a good day...in ZA its triple that excl shipping. I'm told ZA Nikon prices are an outlier though.
