Default This is the lexus hoverboard in action

Car manufacturer Lexus has lifted the lid on its hoverboard and release footage of the board in action.

The company first claimed it developed a rideable hoverboard in June, but with threadbare details or proof of it working. A few days later, a skatepark Lexus converted for its hoverboard was discovered in Cubelles, Barcelona.

The board uses superconducting magnetic levitation tech so it must be ridden on a magnetic metal surface to operate properly. Lexus embedded almost 200 meters of magnetic track into the specially constructed skate park to demonstrate the hoverboard.

“The hoverboard is constructed from an insulated core, containing HTSLs (high temperature superconducting blocks). These are housed in cryostats - reservoirs of liquid nitrogen that cool the superconductors to -197°C. The board is then placed above a track containing permanent magnets. When the board is cooled to its operating temperature the track’s magnetic flux lines are ‘pinned’ into place, maintaining the hover height of the board.”

The device hovers roughly more than 3 inches off the ground without a rider and compresses to 2 inches bearing weight. According to Jalopnik, it also requires to be filled with liquid nitrogen every 10 minutes to keep functioning.

Other companies have made an attempt at hoverboard technology, such as California-based Arx Pax who introduced its Hendo late last year. Like the Lexus hoverboard, the Hendo also uses technology similar to the core principles that run magnetic levitation trains and requires a special surface to operate.

Can't watch the movie atm but what happens if a person lands on the board does it go all the way to the ground?

well it probably has a weight limit if that what you mean or do you mean if you do an ollie or get some air?

    No. Looks pretty good actually

must be ridden on a magnetic metal surface
*sigh* - was hoping they had overcome this somehow.

just the fact that they managed to make superconductors so compact is a giant step in the right direction

first hoverboards and then eventually CARS!! i wonder if they would be able to eventually make it so powerful it can use the earths natural metals underground.

I rate it needs more height if it will be used on none flat surfaces (so all our roads)

Its existed in that format for about a year already:

Hence me hoping this would be the next step...

yeah but doesn't the Hendo use an electromagnet?

They're both using electromagnets if my physics isn't failing me. You're right though in that the addition of superconductor tech makes it is an improvement.
