Stackoverflow, expertsexchange and LinkedIn
Almost left here when Eugene was around, but now that Metalsoup is here I changed my mind.
Mybb is alright if you stay away from certain sections like PD or TK.
There are a lot of opinionated people there who think their opinion is the only one which is right.

Makes me think of that QI episode:

hehehehe
While it has happened, it's important that other members detect this and either self-moderate or report it to the moderators. It has crept in and rpm is aware of it as are the moderators.
Also in this thread are references to a clique. That is not true, as there is not A clique but many of them... The interesting dynamic is to see them opposing each other in (for example) a News thread but then splinter up and agree with each other in the Football thread !!
That is true and why rpm (mybb and myg site owner) has appointed more moderators to assist with it. Even now it is impossible to expect moderators to read every post, hence it becomes important that members assist.I guess that's a problem when a forum just becomes too big.
I doubt that it will happen on MyGaming as there is a common thread here and that is Gaming. MyBB is very diverse and virtually any topic you can think of is covered there.Do you think the same might eventually happen to MyGaming? I suppose it helps that we all have something important in common: we all love gaming.
The ideal would be for the two forums to co-exist, with each having its own identity.

I wouldn't say clicky is the right term. Some regulars can be a bit unwelcoming and unnecessarily hard on new members, which tends to make it feel like it is a very unfriendly place. It takes a while for any person to adjust in a new social situation, so I think it would be very beneficial for members to keep in mind that they shouldn't be overly hard on new members. I registered a new profile a couple of months ago as something of an experiment and posted on it a bit. Despite not actually doing anything wrong, I ended up getting a lot of flak for simple things simply because I was a new a member. My conclusion at the time was that if that was my first experience of the forum, I would not have stuck around. Over the years I've also told a number of people from other forums to register here, many of whom echoed similar sentiments and none of whom I think still post. Cynikill was one of them, if I remember correctly.
I think it's just a slight attitude shift that needs to happen. Even when a new member is being a dick, I think it's going too far for the entire community to jump on their back and quite literally tell them to fuck off. It might just be that the person is not used to interacting on a social platform of this type and might need time to adjust, after which they could become valuable posters.
I only really browse there for adsl info etc, nothing else really, just find it is a hard forum to get started on. Here it felt really easy.
I suppose we have the regulars here, but it seems way less toxic here, I don't think we chase people away.
I find MyBB very useful. These days I don't really use the forums unless I need something. Then I get in, post my question, thank people for their advice and get out. I don't hang around and "mingle" anymore. Used to post opinions on topics relating to Motoring, Software Development and Banking, but I don't really monitor the forums anymore unless I'm searching for something specific.
Otherwise I'm mostly here. Not that active when it comes to posting these days due to time constraints, but I still read the MyG forums daily.
