Default Games that grabbed your imagination

What games have you played that sucked you into their world so much so that you found yourself thinking, daydreaming or actually dreaming about them when you were not playing them?

I remember when I first got Starcraft 2 and got into the multiplayer, I remember finding myself visualizing and daydreaming about build orders and strategies during the day. The game became a bit of an obsession for a period of time.

Also, at one stage I was at a friends house and we spent the weekend playing BF2142 online the whole time. I remember going to bed and dreaming about the game, almost as if I had just continued playing regardless of the fact that I was asleep.

Demon's Souls. From the first time I put the disc in my PS3 I was gone. The first day I played it I started at about 9:00 (was my off day) and before I realised it was 23:00. This happened almost everytime I played the game and when I wasn't playing the game I was thinking about it constantly. Trying to figure out what I was going to do in my next session, what direction I want to take my character build in etc. The same goes for Dark Souls and, more recently, Bloodborne as well. Even after getting the platinum trophy for Bloodborne recently, I still can't stop playing and thinking about it.

Other titles that come to mind is (obviously) the Witcher franchise, Fallout and Borderlands. Although at first I didn't enjoy Borderlands as much. Got it at launch finished it and traded it in. A few months later I was bored and had nothing to play and decided to get it again. I have no idea what changed but when I started playing it the second time I found it really hard to put down and I've been a massive fan of the franchise since then.

Interesting that you didn't enjoy Borderlands initially, I've always known you as a hardcore Borderlands fan. Maybe I should give it another try, since I found myself bouncing off the title pretty quickly.

Yeah man, the first time around I got bored of the game very quickly and pretty much rushed through it just to get it over with.

When I played it again months later I couldn't play anything else and I was always thinking about the game and craving to play it when I wasn't home. I eventually got the platinum trophy for it as well and when I booted up Borderlands 2 for the first time my love for the franchise was set in stone. BL2 has such an awesome world and some of the most memorable characters in gaming. The addictive loot system is another big part of why I love the games and I can spend hours just looting (and shooting) everything I come across. Most people dont enjoy the games solo and even though I prefer SP (have spent almost 300 hours solo in BL2), I would recommend you play the game with a friend or two for maximum enjoyment. And make sure you get the DLC, especially the Tiny Tina one (for BL2). That is probably the single best piece of DLC I've ever played.

The Banner Saga is the game that did it for me, it was like reading a good book. My imagination was overwhelmed with this game, I couldn't stop playing it.
