Thread: Anyone else having problems with Steam Family Sharing?

Question Anyone else having problems with Steam Family Sharing?

As of about 3 weeks ago, whenever my wife is playing a game from my library, my whole Steam library basically becomes unavailable. As soon as I start any game, she gets kicked out of her game after 3 minutes.

It used to be that the only restriction is that we cannot play the same game at the same time but now we can't play different games from the same library at the same time.

Anyone else started to experience this issue recently?

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

Yep mine is exactly the same. I just thought that's how it always was since we only started trying the family sharing thing recently.

From the Steam Family Sharing FAQ:

Can two users share a library and both play at the same time?
No, a shared library may only be accessed by one user at a time.

So perhaps they changed it recently?

I guess so... Bastards. That however makes the feature pretty useless though. We're usually playing at the same time and unless it is a multiplayer game, I'm not paying for a game twice.

I do see though that she can still play if I start my Steam in Offline mode. Just scared Steam Cloud Sync messes up my saved games when I go online again.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

i thought it was like that from the start? i was under the impression that you share your whole library and not just individual games

Yeah this isn't "new" to me either. Its always been this way (at least 10-12 months since i've shared with mate in brazil). Your library is available when you aren't playing. and when you do, if someone was using a game of yours they get a warning (a couple actually) that they need to save/quit in 3 minutes time. So I think your issue was somehow this WASN'T happening to you, and now its unfortunately been fixed

Seems you are right (http://mygaming.co.za/news/columns/5...ine-print.html). I was so sure that it used to be that it was only the same game that cannot be played by 2 people, but apparently the it affects the whole library from the beginning. Guess I was lucky up to now.
Will have to play in offline mode from now on.
