    Default PS4: General Questions

    Hi everyone,

I have some PS4 questions, that do not relate to or would fit into the other PS4 threads:

    Media Player:

The Media Player App seems a bit "outdated" to me, especially compared to the PS3 system. It would seem like they quickly made a Media Player app just to satisfy the masses, but without really caring about the functionality too much. I loved the PS3 media player, it played everything.

I use Universal Media Player, and share lots of my media on the network. I can still play all my files over the network on the PS3, but it seems my PS4 does not play most of these formats. How do you build a new system and scale support for file types down?

This means that most episodes or movies from the interwebs will not play on the PS4.

This is very irritating. Or am I doing it wrong?

We use the bluray player to stream media from PC to TV. I found the PS4 media player plays everything the bluray does , plus it seems to do so faster than the bluray

But do you also get a lot of files that it cannot play at all, via the network?

My PS3 plays all series that I download, while the PS4 plays just about nothing. It's like they support almost no file types, where the PS3 did. Same UMS, same Network, same everything... except that the PS4 plays almost nothing....

I think its also just a time thing... I remember when i first got my PS3 it could play a lot but certainly not anything... By the time i got my PS4 the PS3 could literally play anything... So maybe its just a case of a few patches to add more codecs...

One think i dont understand and probably never will is why the PS4 never launched with a media player, Just copy the PS3 one?

the only files it won't play are the ones the bluray won't play either. which are normally uber compressed mkv files. but these are few and far between. it plays about 99.263% of my media

And is this via a drive plugged into the PS4, or is it from a media streaming service with files on another computer?

I have like a 5% success rate of files that it will play, and this is why I am so worried...

Then I wonder why mine plays almost nothing.... while the PS3 does.

And you are using the Media Player app standard?

I also use the media player, via wifi, to my network drive. Plays almost all files, though a few didn't work. Most of those that didn't play were files I got from my video camera.

And no Beo and Malice, the video camera was not used for ... whatever, make of it what you will

The fact that you felt the need to explain yourself speaks volumes
