Default Clint Hocking Returns to Ubisoft

Ubisoft has announced that Clint Hocking is returning to the company.

According to the Ubisoft blog, Hocking will join Ubisoft Toronto to work on unspecified projects but he made it clear he is not working on the next Splinter Cell.

“When I stopped working on Splinter Cell after Chaos Theory,” Hocking said, “the honest truth is I didn’t think I could make a better one.”

“I feel like I had made the very best Splinter Cell I could ever make and the best thing for me to do for Ubisoft and for Splinter Cell fans was to hand it off and let someone else try to figure out how to make that game differently or better and bring a new vision and a new flavor to it. Maybe one day, 5 or even 10 years from now, it will be the right time and the right place for me to make another Splinter Cell game, but that time is not now.”

Hocking was the creative director for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Far Cry 2 at Ubisoft Montreal before leaving the company in 2010. He made stops at Valve, LucasArts, and most recently Amazon Game Studios, where he recently resigned after a short stint.

“I can’t say specifically what I’m working on yet, but I’m working with a great team on some things that I think are interesting, challenging, and innovative. They are going in the direction that I think games need to go in, for both players and for Ubisoft in the future,” Hocking said.

In related Ubisoft news, at E3, Ubisoft said it need to “take risks” in order to evolve its brands. The often delayed Tom Clancy's The Division's release date was announced at E3. Yesterday, Ubisoft teased a reveal for The Division expected for today.

Why would you want to go back to Ubisoft, of all companies?

How much are they paying him?
