It has a couple of issues actually, which is why the UK switched in 1947 to this:


The biggest thing is that the openings of the socket should be shuttered and be small enough as to prevent a child's fingers from being shoved into the openings. The 3 prong SA sockets we are used to is shuttered, but the openings are too big, thus allowing fingers of small children to enter the holes. The other design difference is that the actual contact pins (the metal bits) cannot be touched when pulling out the plug until such time as the pins are no longer making contact with the terminals on the inside of the socket.
