Default PS2 pirated game stores HOW??

Does anyone else remember there being a few stores that sold copied games that people could play on their chipped PS2s?
How the hell was that possible? That's super illegal is it not??

I think there was and maybe still is one at Brightwater Commons in Randburg. I haven't been there in years though. If I remember correctly they would get raided and then just set up shop again. I may have dreamed this though but I think that it happened.

Lol it happens! But still, it's weird because there was one in a mall close to where I live which had it's own space like any other store. It looked like any other regular store but thinking about it today, it's actually really messed up how they just blatently pirated games out in the open.

If you had a chipped PS / PS2 you could literally just go hire a game from a DVD shop and then copy the disc on your PC and it would work.

When i got my PS1 i literally walked into a shop, and left with a chipped PS1 and about 10 games... I was like 12 at the time, and i had no idea just how illegal it was... I never owned one original PS1 game... It wasnt until i went to a friends house about a year later that i saw he had these "black" discs, and mine were all normal cd's and wouldn't play on his PS... He promptly went to my shop, got his chipped and bought games for next to nothing lol...

They also sold DVD's in plastic sleeves, I doubt they cared about legality.

Lol, reminds me of that CyberGames website*. Ugliest website in SA and selling pirated games. I bought X3 Reunion there at one point in high school because it wasn't available anywhere else. They did a pretty good job of disguising the fact that it was pirated. The only thing that gave it away was the blue underside of the DVD.

*Seems the link is censored on MyGaming. It just replaces the link with the MyGaming front page.

I have not had a chipped console.
I was offered to be bought one but was told to turn it down - I did.

my wii's dvd drive is busted so i had to mod my wii now im running all my games from a portable hard drive, i wouldnt call that piracy since i own all the titles on the drive. also its super convenient and you have a menu with boxart when selecting a title to play.
