The Sweet Confusion Of Going Back To A Game Later On

Now if there is any article that so succinctly describes my gaming life it is this one: The Sweet Confusion Of Going Back To A Game Later On

I'm sure you know the feeling where you've come back to a game after a few months of not playing it and struggled to get back into it. Also, trying to remember what the heck was going on. Currently I've got Saints Row IV, Valkyria Chronicles and The Talos Principle waiting me for to go back to.

Part of my problem is that single player games tend to hold my attention for roughly 10-15 hours of in-game time - this in real time is probably about a month's worth (multiplayer games can be such time-sinks). I usually move onto something shinier or different with the intention of coming back to the other games. The trouble is, sometimes that isn't so easy.

Anyone have the same "first-world" problem?

The downside of having a job to support my hobby. I have a long list of games waiting for me to resume.
My most recent ventures were New 'n Tasty, Mass Effect and Sleeping Dogs.

My solution: Play sports, fighting and racing games...? Wait, I recently also put in some time with Mortal Kombat X after a 3 month hiatus and found out I couldn't do any special moves, combos or fatalaties without looking at the moves list again.

Haha sort of touched on this with a blog post I wrote a few years ago.

The worst is when you eventually go back to the game and you just get into it again then all of a sudden its the end. Then you realise you actually stopped playing all those months/years ago on the last level:wtf: I have done this many times

Done that so many times its ridiculous! So annoying!

One of the first times I remembered experiencing this was with Planescape: Torment. I came back to it after lending it to a friend of mine and he couldn't stop raving about it.

Tried to pick it up where I left off and quickly realised why I had abandoned it: I was stuck.

One weekend while dialling up using Telkom's R7 Call More deal I hit the search engines (probably a combo of Webcrawler, Altavista, Yahoo!, or that all-in-one search engine whose name escapes me) to find out what I was missing.

Turns out I had sold a crucial item somewhere along the way and I couldn't remember which to which store I had pawned it. Ended up starting the game from scratch.

Even though I think it's one of the finest RPGs (much better than BG1 and 2, imo) from that era, I have never actually finished it. I had a game running for 2 years where I would get back to it and play a little every few months, mostly when I was on the move or on holiday. And then they stole my laptop in April. Out of everything that was on the laptop, that Planescape saved game is probably the thing I was most bummed about losing.

Just can't bring myself to start over again. :(

I got so obsessed with Final Fantasy VIII and i wanted to 100% the game... Part of that was collection all the cards in a playable card game with in the game... The catch tho... If you lose a game to someone, they take one of your cards... Good luck remembering who you lost a bloody card to when your 100 hours + into a game...
