I saw some of these at a store recently and they seem so temping to buy as a deterrant to keep in the car in case of smash and grabs etc, the ones i had in my hand colt and beretta are weighted like the real deal and at a 5-10 metre distance can penetrate a perps skin (i'll just aim for the face) bar clothing

anyone have any knowledge on these types of guns/toys pro's cons etc ? thanks

Con: you are giving anyone else with a real firearm the right to shoot you if you pull that on them
Pro: they can be a nice deterrent to anyone who tries
 
Yeah, I agree with insanity.

Not something I would really use in the car as most perps will have some type of firearm and aren't scarred to trade life for a life. Would hate to loose yours for an eye.
I think it's a better serve in the house should you have a break in while asleep. Nothing better than the perp feeling cold hard steel and the weight at the back of their skull.

Having a fake gun does not put you in a position of power, it does the exact opposite.
 
I have one, and to be honest was expecting more. Don't get me wrong, think if you do manage to hit a perp in the face it will hurt like hell, anywhere else you are just going to piss him off. I even let my friend shoot me with mine to test it (from about 8m or so). Left a small pellet sized bruise on my leg and back. Leg I had a denim on, and back was just covered by a shirt. The back hurt a bit more than leg, but not so that it left me cowering in pain/fear. Had a laugh about it afterwards.

Direct in the face, ja sure, man down, anywhere else you are coming second.

I basically use mine now just to sort out the bush pigeons crapping up my gutter...
 
thanks for the input so the conclusion is the R2600 i would have spend on the will be better spent on something else
 
I have one lying around the house for quick access (Real gun being in the safe). Ours is loaded with pepper and rubber balls. The air pistol is still a good thing to have if people come at you with a melee weapon (Knife, etc). If someone comes at you with a gun it doesn't matter whether you fight back with fists, a melee weapon or a bat. They will try shoot you if you confront them so personally i believe the the air pistol is the best choice.
