Piracy in the gaming industry: Am I the only one seeing a pattern here?

I love it how everyone likes to tear into someone when they aren't around to defend themselves. So since no one tried to see my point I will explain it here not that it matters anyway. Yes the last piece of my article was plagiarism, but it was not intentionally believe it or not. Some people know that I use MiRC a lot to chat to other gamers and we had this discussion that bought on my blog post I made. And someone posted that which at the time I assumed was his own words as I dont read penny arcade for the most part only look at the pretty pictures. So I asked him if I can use it in my blog post and he said yes, unknowing of course that it was something directly from Penny Arcades website. Only after Skurm posted the original in my post did I noticed what happened. So I made the changes accordingly by quoting it and adding the source both on the Prophecy blog and Wordpress blog, and I will make the changes on the MyGaming forum accordingly.

I take full responsibility for what happened and I shouldn't have in hind sight used anything that comes off a public chat room, as I probably got trolled and did not even notice it. And I am usually thorough with doing my research on blog pieces. I apologies to everyone for miss leading them and using someone else's work in my blog piece and stating it as my own. I will make a blog post apologizing to all the readers for miss leading them. And in hind sight I should have handled it better by replying to Skurms post and updating my piece by saying the above. But I didn't so I will gladly take any criticism that comes my way.

However, Raven, I understand your sentiments, and those of the guys who have issues with game pricing - unfortunately, I can't agree with them. If you can't afford the game, or you are not willing to pay the price, don't buy the game, and don't pirate it either. Just go without. Whether gaming is your passion (or your life, if you want to put it that way), you won't die without it. I'm not a doctor, but I can pretty much guarantee you'll live.

Frankly I find it kind of ironic that the people that have been supporting you in such threads are so quick to turn on you, for the rest of us, it was just extra ammunition

It might be better to in future quote anything you yourself have not written when posting something like this. All this did was call to question anything you said in response to others comments. But you are human after all and as humans we all make mistakes. You explained your situation and I think it should just be put to rest now.

I'd probably be the last person to leap to larch's defense, but there's a world of difference between intentional piracy of a game, and unintentional plagiarism of an author. On the internet, information is fluid and often copied and recopied. Is it larch's fault for not indicating in the blog post that he was reposting something from IRC, as he stipulates in his side of the story? Probably. It certainly would have covered his ass right about now. Lesson learned? For his sake I hope so. Always, always post your source.

But branding him a heretic and using his mistake as ammunition to justify something that remains clearly illegal - software piracy - is a case of trying to make two wrongs into a right. You're playing the man and not the ball.

Now, of course, if it was intentional, then i advocate the man being flayed alive.
