No problem, I hate it when you get people on the phone that are to lazy to do their job properly...

So as it turns out, the guy was just someone the broker was sending around because one TV is apparently too small a claim for the insurance company themselves to send an assessor for, unfortunately that guy keeps not pitching up, so I sommer took it to Samsung, who have quoted about R4850, and for that price, I might as well buy a new TV. Unfortunately, they didn't send the damage report that I need for a claim, so I am now waiting for that and hoping that they do say it's lightning damage and not just old age.

Yeah, hoping for your part that they say it's power source (Eskom/Lightning) related and that your insurance says it's "uneconomical to repair" so you can get an awesome new TV

Hopefully, otherwise I'll try find someone who does circuit level repairs, which should be much cheaper. I think that Samsung sommer replaces the whole panel rather than trying to repair the broken one. And it could potentially be something as simple as a blown capacitor.
